THE PRETEND KEEPER

Another excellent day today, when I arrived this morning the sun was just coming up into a clear sky, which I knew would be a bit of a problem for what I had planned so I had to juggle it around a bit and we struggled to put good numbers out of the first couple of drives, stopping for elevenses the bag was a modest 20, I’m definitely going to have to cut back the elevenses, it’s getting out of hand, they got through, 5 bottles of Prosecco, a bottle of bramble gin, a bottle of sloe gin, 2 bottles of port and a box of beer for the lads, now the sun had moved round it gave us the opportunity to do Gordon’s pen, started off slow, just having to stop the drive all the time so the birds didn’t all go at once, we managed to put some really good birds out of here ever with a wild lab on the loose, at the end of the drive they’d had 114 shots, I’m not sure for how many but that’s not important to me, shot are what I want to count. We finished the day with a couple of small drives around forestry buildings, the bag was 65 pheasants, a pigeon, a partridge and 3 squirrels, they have got a 3 week break now so that will give me time to change a few things around and with a bit of luck we can have another couple of good days 👍IMG_3797.webpIMG_3801.webpIMG_3803.webp

Agreed mate, I couldn't believe when a mate told me what he pays for short back & sides nowadays!
Go on about £15? Realised when I had more forehead than hair it’s time to feck it off🤣 I was about 19🤣🤣🤣🤣
Clippers cost me £15, 20 plus years ago so must have saved me thousands as I run it over the bonce once a week.

Oh mate, got some right ones in our village. Even got two Premier league England international footballers!! I stick out like sore thumb, Mrs says we're the Dingles!
  Best way to be mate. I would refer to myself as "feral" and anyone who knows me would agree. Thats why I stay in the deep dark places of Mid Wales as I dont stand out as much as where you are 👍

Awesome day was had today !
So many people attended as well as the usual truck and trailer we needed 5 cars to get guns - pickers - friends round the shoot
With over 20 beaters too we covered areas of land that have not been touched all season
Not that it matters that much but we ended up with 97 head and a few to pick in the morning that we could not locate today
Nice to have a dry day and the birds were out and about in the sunshine - mega

Family day yesterday!
Had 22 guns taking turns over 5 drives.
Gaffer had also put on 4 instructors to support with the novices and keep everything nice and safe.
Weather was very still and cold, birds tucked right in and sitting tight and catching on quick to a “shoot day” and breaking back so every days still a school day”.
Highlights for me was both the wife and daughter took their first driven birds 🥰. And the daughter was using the little 28 bore and took a high bird passed up by others. She’s still excitedly talking about it today so a definite memory made there!!
With a lot of novices, bag was 21 pheasants and a solitary partridge for 150 shots.
Put many more over them but nice to see people shooting to their abilities and not just having a poke at the really high offerings.
