THE PRETEND KEEPER

Just sat near the pens watching a bird with a leaf in it's beak being chased for it 🤣 when there's hundreds on the floor.
I put bushels of ferns in to keep them occupied,it keeps them busy.
Has anyone had any problems with pellets this year? I've had to make some pan feeder's as the pellets are a bit dusty and clog up the springers.View attachment 380938View attachment 380939

Be worth you knocking some trees down Phil - get some cover in the pen
We have had a thousand plus in our pens and they are still like jungles 2 months since they arrived - really helps

I used to use topgun feed that were a bit dusty but a couple of years ago it turned up and it was more powder than pellet, so swapped to Aone ( Devenish feed ) and it’s spot on

On another note, bloody forestry have decided to start ripping timber out of some of my drives and they are planning to go in around my main pen, there was always an agreement that they wouldn’t go in after August, but the new boss seems to do what he wants, I had a meeting with him and let’s just say we didn’t get off on a good footing 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬View attachment 381112

Mate
Dont worry - honestly
It will be the best thing ever

I did our place and people were - well not happy - but we had the best season we have ever had

Feeding again today and they are really starting to stretch their legs, hopefully these stubbles will be ploughed out soon, forestry have started smashing the place up at the minute they are in a good place for me, stopping the birds heading for a boundary fence

On another note, my FAC and SGC are due to renew next month, got home today and they were on the mat, superb service from Cleveland firearms department 👍

Some may remember last year i told tale of the hornets stinging the wife - me laughing - then me getting stung all over a few days later - Karma i think they call it

Anyway this year a few nests are about again and i have kept well away - Until this morning
It was raining hard - so i thought i would sneak into a cabin with a nest close by to get a single scaffold tube
All went well - tube out - door closed and locked
Just walking away and thump - stung on the side

I flap about it run to the car jump in and go but one has stung me on my finger - OH MY LIFE - THE PAIN
Honestly incredible

I was sat for half hour bathing it in a cold puddle

Sat at home now and had a few pain killers - antihistamines and managed to thaw a bag of peas on it - so now on Freshona Mixed Veg !

WOW - what a sting they have

Seem to be a lot around this year. We had a nest in the attic and they were getting in through a hole under the tiles. They started to come in through the windows / doors in the evenings when the lights were on so they had to go. No way I was going up the ladder to dose them so came up with a cunning plan! Long tree loppers with some plastic 15mm water pipe taped to it. 90 degree bend at the top, filled the bottom with a good dose of wasp nest powder and taped it over. Bee suit on and held the top against the entrance to the nest. Compressor stuck through the tape in the bottom and gave it a good blast.

A second or so pause and then BOOM, huge puff of powder into the nest! I then retreated to a suitable distance but job done and they didn't come after me. Could hear them buzzing and dying on the ceiling above the bedroom for an hour or two but not seen one in or out of the hole since.
