Thermal Imaging questions

Hi folks.

I'm thinking of buying a thermal device for work.
Mainly for spotting pigeons indoors and rats outdoors, but possibly for deer/fox/rabbits if I ever get time to enjoy life outside of work again

At the moment I'm looking at the Pulsar Helion XQ38F or the Pulsar Quantum Lite XQ30V.

Is the XQ38F worth the extra for what I require of it?
At what range on open ground could you spot a rat with a thermal imager?
Would it be able to spot a heat signature of a pigeon tucked behind a tin roof panel or partially?

Thanks for any help with this.

Don’t know about the models you are looking at, I use the helion xp 50. It can pick up the signature of wrens at 30/40 yards. If what ever your looking for is behind an object you won’t see it. I have had a Roe deer totally disappear behind a rash bush.

Is the XP50 not to much mag for Forestry/Woodland, I was thinking of upgrading but to the XP38?

Its the only one I have ever used, so have nothing to compare it against. In the time I have had it I have found it to be a great aid. Wouldn’t rely on one fully as things can disappear.

I would suggest you go for the lowest mag possible,so you don't lose your perspective of distance for close up work.

So XQ23V,XQ19F or XP28 depending on your budget.

I have an XQ23V and its fine for all my needs ,800m range for big stuff ,takes AA batteries and comes with a spare pack so running out isnt an issue.Rats ,bunnys,Deer,Foxes and u set the screen resolution to suit .If your unsure Scott Country does a try b4 u buy .I got mine from Optics Warehouse ,best price and service at the time imho atb

Do you want bells and whistles, ability to record, wi fi etc. Or do you just want to spot the heat signals?

XQ30v does all i need

I have all models in stock, personally best value for money in terms of bank for buck has to be the Helion XQ38F as an allrounder, I would say it is definitely worth the upgrade from a quantum lite.
Blackwood Outdoors

I'm assuming you are close to each other ? It would be worth visiting Blackwood Outdoors, and comparing the options. I would agree, that the XQ38F is one of the best options.

I’ve got an XQ30v, spot rabbits no problem at 250yds and horses very clearly over 500yds.pigeons have no hiding place in barns anymore. If your a member of lamping fox’s Nigel Simpson will sort you out with a good discount. Called and messaged Scott country, never heard back so went else where, game changer
