Third vehicle (Jimny) Insurance

Furloughed (Sorned) the Jimny a few months ago when I bought a Mitsu 4wd (on a sort of trial basis but which I now really do like) so replaced the Jimny on the Insurance with the Mitsu. The Jimny has just passed the MoT soooo being of a certain age I am tempted to add it to the insurance as my (other) fun utterly essential shooting vehicle . Fine says me, super, dead easy…..i
Except, including the sainted Lady FB’s oft-chauffeur-driven stretch limo, that would bring our total vehicular stable to 3 and I have been told that my no-claims bonus/discount cannot be included in the third vehicle’s insurance calculation so the premium for the Jimny is pretty much an arm and a leg and (according to Brunhilde) is far too much……
Sooooo, anyone out their fluent in Insurance speak or perhaps in a similar position who can proffer advice on any alternative means to insure said Jimny, please?
Much obliged lads….

Don’t insure it fully comp? Go basic.
Suprised it’s that expensive as a third car, often if you have a stable of vehicles it helps the overall premium if you have a multi car policy, as you can’t drive all of them at once !

A lot of firms will ask you about your current no claims and apply a discount based on that, you will just start the new policy with no no claims bonus. It need not be that expensive. I have a 6ltr W12 610bhp hobby third car and it doesn't cost that much.

Find another insurance company that will give you an introductory NCD
This ^^

I have three cars & got an ‘introductory’ bonus when I first insured the third one that pretty much matched the NCD on the other two.

Try giving Howdens insurance brokers in Newbury a call - that is the office that specialises in 4x4s & modified vehicles. DON’T just call your local office, call the Newbury one.

Think about doing a limited mileage policy & explain that you have a main everyday car so this is a weekend driver.

Also, don’t assume TPF&T is going to be cheaper than Fully Comp… I thought that when looking to reduce the premium for my third car. Turns out it isn’t as they reckon it’s only people who have a poor claims history who think they don’t need or can’t afford Fully Comp so they calculate the risk & premium accordingly - your car might be a £500 ‘junker’ but it’ll cause just as much damage when you rear end that brand new Range Rover at the lights. In their eyes there is a greater risk from someone who doesn’t care if their cheap car is written off than from someone who cares enough about it to get it covered even if the damage is heir fault.

Sounds like great advice, many thanks.

You tend to find that third party fire and theft insurance these days is nearly as expensive as fully comp. So you won't save there much. It's probably worth going onto the usual comparison sites to see what's on offer. Adding to your existing insurance will likely be more expensive that elsewhere who are hoping to get your business.
