Threat to French game chick and egg imports

This seems to be flying under the radar at the moment with the NE fiasco but our more traditional enemies, the hunt sabs, are actively and apparently successfully campaigning to stop the import of pheasant and partridge chicks and eggs across the channel. I will admit that I have only their own social media sites to go from but they are saying all the ferry companies (not sure to the truth in that) have stopped imports due to their lobbying, and now they are collectively putting huge pressure on Euro tunnel to like wise stop. The hunt sabs are a small group of ctual active members but they are backed up by a massive amount of keyboard warriors, and they are very clever and effective at online campaigning.

I realise we should all support the UK game rearing industry as much as possible but with over 10 million game bird chicks and eggs imported from France if this was to stop overnight there would be a huge shortfall in supply this season, and probably for several seasons afterwards.

Your on about this:

Please copy and paste our template email (or even better, write your own) and send it to Eurotunnel:

Dear Sir/Madam,

After seeing the footage of pheasants and partridges in tiny barren cages, I am appalled to find out that Eurotunnel transport hatching eggs and chicks. This indefensible industry can only operate with your support. I read with some interest that Eurotunnel regulations specific that animals will not be transported for slaughter or animal testing, surely this should extend to gamebirds as they slaughtered for sport?

I eagerly await your reply.

Yours faithfully,

Ring Eurotunnel customer services and ask them when they will stop the transportation of chicks and hatching eggs into the U.K.:

From the UK:+44 (0) 8443 35 35 35
From France: +33 (0) 810 63 03 04

Of the 15 million gamebirds imported into the UK, over 9 million enter as hatching eggs. Please also contact Brittany Ferries and DFDS:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you on your stance to no longer allow your vessels to carry gamebird chicks. However, the battery farming of gamebirds in France will continue as long as you allow hatching eggs to be transported. I implore you to join P&O and copy their policy to not carry gamebird chicks and hatching eggs.

I eagerly await your reply.

Yours faithfully,

You would hope that this may make some people sit up and take note when their game shoot is all over and done in two days.
You would love to think that our illustrious shooting organizations would be approaching the ferry companies and Eurostar to put their side of the story forward. Especially if part of the syndicate rules says you need to be affiliated to such & such organization........................I can see the subs coming to a grinding halt in certain quarters.

Have the guys from Guns on Pegs read this one
