Are Tikka 'Stainless' rifles actually stainless steel?

I've heard both versions presented as fact: that they are indeed stainless; and that they are standard chrome-moly but then bead blasted and painted.

Do Tikka actually refer to it as stainless in any of their marketing materials, or has 'stainless' just become a thing along the way?
 
Tikka and Sako barrels are manufactured as one lot, and are exactly the same. So if Sako stainless barrels are genuinely stainless (which they are), at least the barrels must therefore also be on Tikkas.
 
Stainless steel doesn't mean that it won't rust.

AFAIK stainless T3(x) models are mostly stainless steel. Some parts like bolts and inside trigger mechanism, might not be.

Regarding the cerakoted models like Veil, there are rumors that they're stainless, but it's not confirmed. Maybe your question was based on these?

The only one I've heard rumoured to be both stainless AND cerakote is the Super Varmint, which could be believed given the price of them. However, I haven't seen it mentioned in any marketing material or website, etc. from Tikka themselves. You'd think if it were true they'd want to shout about it.

My Veil I don't believe to be stainless, although I haven't tried to scratch any Cerakote off to check! 😂
 
There are claims / notions on this very site that Veil is stainless, just do a search with appropriate terms (they also suggest you don't need to scratch it since it wears off by itself...)

There's no need to scratch anything, cycling the bolt enough times is enough to reveal all 😂

That, was, made in jest. I too have a Veil myself :)
 
I have had light rust in a T3x Stainless Super Varmint. It polished out easily enough but its presence surprised me. Boresnake obviously wasn't up to the job. Never left the mod on so totally unexpected. Now I'm super vigilant.

Rifles are not made by the same stainless steel as a kitchen kettle but with some type of stain resistant steel.
