I always love the boxing day shoot,it's a bit more relaxed and everyone is just glad to be out .
this year it was a bit different!
apart from most of the shoot being water logged,has been all season and no signs of it drying up.we have called it off as nearly everyone is ill with some bug
.
so I'm not going miss out on my fun.
I saw it as a good opportunity to introduce the new pup to game and it doesn't matter if she fcuks it up,as it won't spoil the day for anyone else.
managed to persuade wifey to come and keep an eye on her.
I decided to work out some outlying spinneys.
we set off , walking down the track with the Mrs 5 paces behind ( like any good wife should
)a nice cock pheasant got up flushed by the pup,good start.
she worked very well if not a little over excited as the others started to flush birds.mrs put her on the lead near the end so as not to blow her mind in the mad flush coming.
I took a nice hen and psycho Sophie retrieved it.( this dog is not wired right but is a good hunter).
on the next wood old Dixie flushed a woodcock,and I missed itthen another hen which I hit hard but went on about 50 yds then dropped,off she went and about 10 minutes later came back with it.
we called it a day at that,had a few shots,seen my dogs enjoying themselves and also introduced the pup to game.( winner winner chicken dinner ) oh and had a nice walk with the Mrs.
