Transforming central heating efficiency

Last month boiler died. It a Valliant Turbo max installed in 2000.
Circulating pump failed and was knocking out RCB. Boiler was due its annual service so my excellent service engineer came over. Pump head was easy. Also replaced the heat exchanger which we knew was on its last legs. Easy except the old O rings were rock hard so the 3 push on fittings were a bugger to get off. I became an apprentice any way we got it off and put a brand new one on. Boiler serviced and happy days with abundant hot water. We had to turn the boiler thermostat down as hot tap water was far to hot.
Radiators now far hotter and heat up so much more quickly.
Last year I read you should clean your radiator fins. So tried it on a couple of rads pig of a job. Anyway last month I purchased the real macoy of radiators brush. Goat hair tapered brush. Made in Germany. Also discovered how to take the radiator top grill off.
This is the result of a proper radiator clean!
Best not suggest this task to wife or partner as brush may be inserted into a place its not ment to go. It's long enough for colonic brushing!

You just reminded me to go and check the fins on some of our radiators.

I've now ordered a radiator brush :oops::oops::oops:

well done. On older systems I like a larger pump, where you can adjust the flow rate. Also don't forget to bleed and balance the radiators

We added inhibitor and bled the rads as he topped up the system.
He is a good chap,local and all my neighbours use him.
My boiler is old but parts still available and not too expensive so concencus is until it becomes uneconomical to repair we will keep it running.
Suits me
