I hope you are ok? I currently believe that we are in the golden age of shooting with the best equipment coming from around the world. The only issue is import costs and availability? I have an opportunity to go to the US and shoot this year. I have done my research regarding the generation of the necessary requests/forms to get the import rights to get my firearm into the US. I am nervous about this though. Therefore, I have some questions to the community if possible.

Has anyone done this recently and how did you find the process, did you have any difficulties?

I was thinking about taking a barreled action into the country buying a stock and then competing with it and then bring it back and pay the export duty when leaving the US. I would do this due to availability and the configuration of the stock/equipment I want (I am a bit of a lump LOP etc). Would I run into problems on my outbound or return?

Has anyone done this? Is it worth it or not?

Regards RIchie

There is no export duty due when leaving the US, you will have paid Federal tax and most likely state tax when you buy it, I have never heard of anyone getting these taxes refunded when leaving the land of the free.
Import duty will be required on it upon entering the UK, unless you play the " but I took the rifle with me it is on my FAC" card.
BATF is very easy online for the form number 6 to fill in and get an import permission (I have done this a few times) if you have a hunting or target shooting arranged in advance for justification.

The golden age for shooting is about 40 years in the rear view mirror….
You are property right in regard to the UK however the States and with PRS shooting/innovating amazing equipment, you can get some amazing rifles and components.
