Unusual impala trophy

I took this impala ram in the Eastern Cape when hunting with Wild Horizon. He's not the biggest ram you'll ever see, but take a close look at the horns. Does anyone notice anything unusual?

Good looking ram,

the horns are twisting outwards at the top, rather that going strait or slightly inwards.

Great trophy as usual from Wild Horizons, a one of a kind for sure. Was it on Sweatlands, or Lady Grey you took it, I know he also has loads of other concessions now based on what you want to take. I'm going back next year for the sixth time with Guy and Clint, and cant wait. Only thing stopped me this year was a total knee joint replacement that's gone wrong, 6 months on and I'm still in pain. A great trophy, have it done with Guys taxidermy chap, I have six at home that look great from warthog to blue wildebeest. deerwarden

Hi MJ75,
I thought that Impala horns started off as Juveniles, pointing inwards. Then as they grew, they lengthened and straightened. By the time they were adult, they started to turn outwards at the tips. Yours seems to be an extreme example of this, and a very nice Trophy.

Sorry to hear about your knee problems this year Deerwarden. Went out again to Guys a few weeks ago - Lady Grey - fab area - very beautiful. Had a ball!

Mike, Lady grey is my favourite concession he has, it has a lot of history there with the two old ruined houses, plus the newer farmhouse, also the small graveyard that that they tidy up each year. It has graves of people going back to the 1840's, and a mother and two small girls who died probably in a flu epidemic in the late 1890's. I picked up a 7x57 boar war era cartridge case, and the base only of a 577 case, used by the settlers to hunt game maybe. Lady Grey is the place to do the African Macnab, there's a road down to the river now. Also try for a caracal, that's a hard one to get, Clint got one while I was there, a trophy he really wanted and had never taken one before. We tried going out at night to call one in, saw one but couldn't get a clear shot. Glad you enjoyed your trip and happy I could help you. deerwarden.

Black Kei River. I'll be posting a lot more information about it soon after very recently agreeing to work with Guy on offering packages there. In essence, it's completely new, we were the first 'foreign' hunters to hunt there as it's only ever been hunted by the owners family and friends. Work has been done over the last few weeks so that they can accomodate guests and meet all the legal requirements etc. There are some very nice kudu bulls there and countless warthog amongst other species. It's quite a large concession that offers an authentic African hunting experience. We're both on holiday soon, but will be working on packages shortly after our return. It's also ideal for bow hunters as you can stalk in very close to the game. On a couple of occasions we were within 30 yards of warthog, mountain reedbuck and a young kudu bull.

I can't wait to get back to be honest!
