Verbal abuse - -Help required.

This is not Stalking related so please forgive me ! - - I've a dear friend phoned me tonight, worried sick about her 96 year old mother who is in a Nursing Home. The old lady is pretty much compos mentis and has started complaining to my friend (her daughter) about a lot of verbal abuse she is receiving. Otherwise the Home seems sound - - clean, food is good etc.We now want to put a v good hand held, type Digital Audio Recorder into her room to prove or disprove these allegations. We have a v safe place to put it,( Don't you worry about the legalities ) - - a fairly small room but I suppose the more sensitive the machine the better.
Hopefully someone in our midst knows a bit about these things and could advise me on what to buy. Cost is not neccessarily a problem.

Once again, I'm sorry for posting this on here but that's what friends are for , hopefully.

A quick Google and it would appear such devices are available from the likes of Argos, Currys et al from £25 up. Just a case of looking at their storage media and battery life to see what lasts longest and will store the most data, eg a 32gb SD card or similar.
This has me pondering what is said to my sister in her care home....

There are specialist websites for this kind of discreet kit, not cheap but i know people who use it daily for various reasons, 1 being the very one you speak off, they used both video and audio and the results are very clear cut

I was about to say something covert, even a phone with a decent memory and voice recording would be good.

These types of situations are very common, I live next to a home where abuse has been reported and been in the national press. Incidentally we used to hear a lot of incoherent shouting and arguing, but we always thought it was patients conditions (as you would). Abuse of the old and infirm is disgusting in my opinion.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I eventually bought an incredibly sensitive, small Sony voice recorder which was used by my friend over the weekend. It proved all suspicions so the Police are now involved. It'll be interesting to see what happens now.
My friend stayed with her Mum in the home last night and no doubt will be looking at all options today.

I think that's terrible. Probably more common in general than we once thought as well. I suppose the only good thing is that it was identified before things deteriorated further and is being addressed. Give yourself a pat on the back for helping with that!

Having been through something similar I would suggest you get the care quality commission and local authority safeguarding team involved also. This shall ensure that proper practices are put in place at a company level.

I hope your friends Mum is OK. Time for some legal advice and a word with the local press if the staff are failing in their duty of care.

As my girlfriend keeps saying you really shouldn't f**k with shooters, cause we can be hell of a sly when we need to be. Good on everyone for helping this guy out. I'd hate to think of some halfwit career abusing someone who should be looked after and respected. Especially when that person is being paid!!
