Sold: Vintage Marlin 39M .22 rim fire lever action

Good afternoon all.

I am selling my vintage Marlin 39M “Mountie” .22 LR.

I say its “vintage” because the 1st two digits of serial number date its manufacture as 1978.

Whilst I’ve owned this rifle for many years, it’s been a cabinet queen for a while. As I am not using it, it is now time to let it go.

I sold its sister, a Marlin 39A a few years back, and now it’s time for someone else to have some fun with this one too.

This one predates the introduction of the cross hammer safety, (introduced circa 1983, which is a feature some collectors don’t like).

Tubular magazine, holds 26 Short, 21 Long or 19 Long Rifle Cartridges.

The barrel is threaded ½ UNF.

It is available with, or without a Parker Hale moderator.

I am asking £485.

Any question, please ask by reply.

Why would you want it?
  • Despite its age it is in fabulous condition and complete with front and rear iron sights.
  • It's likely to be admired by those who love, or collect lever actions.
  • It is ideal to facilitate low cost training for full bore level action shooters, or for introducing someone new to shooting, or to simply preserve a bit of history in their collection.
  • It still has that silky smooth action.
  • The wood to metal tolerance highlights Marlin's build quality.
  • The magazine tube is true and straight, no damage.
  • The American walnut has a nice oiled finish and the blueing is in fabulous condition for the age.
  • It’s a joy to use a piece of history.
I’ve uploaded photos so you can appreciate it.

I've added an photo of an old target so you can see a group at 50m.

I’d be happy to ship via an RFD transfer at the buyers cost.

I’d also be happy* to meet at a local range in Cheshire to view and try before you buy.

(* But I would want you to email me a photo of a current FAC with an appropriate variation).

Some Marlin history (Marlin Model Golden 39A - Wikipedia).

The Marlin 39A lever action, a descendant of the Model 1891, represents the oldest and longest continuously produced shoulder firearm in the world and is considered to have been continually produced to the same basic specifications for over 100 years. That’s from the 1890’s when Annie Oakley used a Model 1891 to put 25 shots through one jagged hole in 27 seconds, to the one currently available in Marlins custom shop at $3695 ***.

The 39M “Mountie” is a straight stock version of the 39A (with pistol grip). The "Mountie" versions have been produced at various points in the rifle's life and featured a shorter 20" barrel, straight stock and a magazine capacity of 20 Short, 16 Long or 15 Long Rifle .22 cartridges. The model 39 rifle is built of forged steel parts and American grown black walnut. It is one of the very few remaining .22 rifles with easy takedown ability (it can be taken apart using a coin).

Marlin 39’s are also famous for their proprietary Micro-Groove rifling, which uses many small lands, and are still considered one of the finest examples of a lever .22 rifle, and one of the most accurate .22 rifles ever produced.

No connection to the seller but…..

I have just bought a 39A, and I absolutely love it, as does everyone at my club. It’s accurate, beautifully engineered and slick as a slick thing. The 39M is less common and quite collectible.

If you’re thinking about it, don’t, just buy it!

I’d agree they are spot on so accurate and great to shoot- just wish I have a slot and some spare cash

To add to the previous comments, these 39a Mounties are fantastic rifles. I hopefully have a 1960 39a Mountie lined up once my ticket is sorted. Whoever buys this will not regret! I can also thoroughly recommend Skinner peep sights from Marlin Spares UK as these help if you have old eyes!
