I’ve had a pulsar xq38 Quntum for over five years now it’s been a good unit and served me well that been the case I thought it was time to replace it so I thought I would stick with Pulsar ordered a Telos xq35 LRF so today was the first day I could use the new unit as we’ve been covered in fog for the last four days ,I must say I’m very disappointed in the image quality I spent an hour changing setting but no improvement this was all done on the lowest mag settings if I increase the mag the image is terrible the focus ring does not seem to improve things any one had similar problems

Other threads on the Telos indicate quality issues. I’m in the same thought mode as you - upgrade my XM30S or not? With the blizzard of new products out there I’m not sure I will stick with Pulsar, which is a shame. I’d take yours back and get it exchanged. Hope it works out for you.

Fog will make most units a bit carp.

Also used to be Pulsar loyal, but moved on as there are better performing units out there for way less. Return it and get an Infraray FQ35 LRF V2 (or what ever it’s callled - Blackwoods got a deal on them)

With 640 res and an LRF, it’s a dinky little unit - front lids a bit annoying, but otherwise it’s spot on.

If everything is damp due to rain or fog, you won't see much background detail because it's all at similar temperatures. Any body heat should show up well.
My main reason for hanging on to the pulsar Quantum HD50s is being able to use the auxiliary battery pack that gives 20+ hrs use.

Infiray Finder FH35R V2... best bang for bucks I think, £1399 from Blackwoods Outdoors, my nephew has one and the image is superb compared to my Pulsar XG35LRF. However, the built quality is not quite the same.
I was initially disappointed with my XG35 when I upgraded from an Axion Key, but hey ho I've got it now.

I have a Telos XP50 but being without it for 4 weeks when it went back for repair (was replaced) I too bought a Infiray Finder FH35R V2 off Blackwood Outdoors as a back-up “just in case”. The 2 are very different in build/quality/use terms (I hate the menu system on the Finder and it doesn’t have the range of options the Telos does) and my go to remains the Telos but the Finder is impressive in performance.

The only true way to find out if your u it is faulty is to test 2 different u it's side by side, on the same day, that way they're being tested in the same conditions.
As has been said, any moisture in the air will/can have a minor/major affect on the Image you see.
I have a telos, some nights the image is amazing, some nights it's not.
What setting do you have the sensitivity set at?
I notice a big improvement in image when you go from normal to high/ultra.

Snap identical situation. I had a Telos on a 1 week demo loan and returned it. XQ38 is still going strong. I think I will swap/upgrade if and when it dies.
V rare to see them 4 sale SH that tells you how good they are.

Had an XM30s and upgraded to a Telos XP50 LRF….massive improvement, no comparison.

Agreed but an XP is 640 res while XQ/M is 384 res.

Massive difference in detection quality IMHO - I’ve had two XPs and while they were very good at the time, new alternative stuff on the market offers so many more features for way less coin.

Hate to say it as they are very well made quality units, but bet Pulsars really struggling to compete.

I went from a Pulsar XQ38LRF to a HIK Condor CQ35 and the difference is unreal so if the Telos was up to spec it should be a night and day improvement for you.

This is a good point. I also upgraded from a Pulsar Axion Key XM30 and in the first few hours with the ATN BlazeHunter 650.....I had visual information overload. It took turning everything down from 20 to around 6 or 7 and then a while for me to realise that live animals do really still stand out against a much more detailed background.

With the Axion Key the background was so dull that anything immediately stood out - if also a little vague. With upgrades I think it takes a little time to get used to the massive gain in visual info. In a couple of weeks I have already seen game...behind thicker cover, behind a wall of fog and at much greater distances. Not knocking the entry-level units -they still put more deer in the bag for sure, but you do get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the comments I returned the Telos today the lads at the shop had a look through it and confirmed it was rubbish gave me the option of a refund or an alternative spotter ,ended up with the Hik condor
