Wet Tumblers

I've made a nice homemade wet tumbler out of a tub and a cordless drill that I've affixed to a wooden frame of sorts and it does indeed work pretty well. The object of the exercise was to save a bit of money, with most wet tumblers being in the £250-£300 range. However, the drill itself costs around £110 and as it's tied up on this job, it's not really available for other work. To remedy this, I could perhaps buy another drill, either a cheap one to do the tumbling (not sure that'd last) or another good one for general work. I could source some other type of rotary power source, a motor of some sort, but frankly, that might be beyond my skill level. I wouldn't know what to get really. I did a bit of a search online and on ebay, there's lots of sellers advertising rotating tumblers for around the £50 mark. Their main use is for cleaning jewellery, but I wondered if they would just as easily do brass. Apart from the fact that they have a smaller capacity (3kg as opposed to around 7kg for a commercially available shooting brass tumbler) I wondered if they would work as well. The smaller capacity doesn't worry me as I'll often load 20 or so rounds at a time.

Anyway, I'm rambling on as I tend to do sometimes. The question is, has anyone tried one of these and did they do okay?

Rock / Jewellery tumblers work well

I was lucky and picked up one of these TUMBLER CR2 (Excluding barrels) with 3 vained rubber barrels for £80 on ebay secondhand, it is excellent and was a real bargain.

Close in budget to your ebay job is this one

Beach 2lbs Tumbler Discounted Starter Bundle you may need to glue vanes in to the barrels

Or better still JUNIOR TUMBLER (EXCL BARRELS) with a 1400gr vaned barrel Barrel 1400gms Plastic Vaned Evans (check compatability with them), some steel pins and you are away! This is a bit more than your ebay one but very likely a better machine from a genuine UK seller, that barrel will do 150 .223 or 100+ .308 very comfortably, comes in cheaper than your £110.00 drill replacement.

I have no link to the seller other than I bought a couple of spare drive belts and seals from them when I got my 3 drum machine and they were really helpful.
