What 1" Scope Rings for a Tikka M 65

Bearing in mind the age of the rifle, what would be the best decent quality 1" rings for my Tikka M65? Budget is about £35 I guess....

Scope going on is a Meopta Artemis 2000 6x42 Ret4B(bdc).

So, any old rings will fit then?

Id doubt that as I seem to recall that Tikka have tapered dovetails. I mean that unlike the one on Brno and the old BSA's which are parallel the Tikkas are tapered down their length. Also the two dovetails are of differing widths

Good luck finding any quality of £35 BTW.

I picked up some steel based with alloy top rings that have the Apel ring profile and sit in the base via a stud which gives some windage adjustment. Cannot find a makers name on them though. and am not sure what rifle they fit .......................... i think they are Tikka but then again as I don't have access to one to check.

Guess I will have to find out one day what they really fit. I was intending to use them on a project that got shelved for obvious reasons.

Tikka are parallel aren't they Brithunter? It is the sister company Sako that are tapered.

Toxster as Bh says I think that you will have to budget a bit more than £35 if you want quality mounts. Sportsmatch do a reasonable quality mount for Tikkas not sure if this is the right one.
It may be worth giving the opticswarehouse a ring, I've found them excellent to deal with in the past.

I am unsure as I have never owned rifles by either company as was. Looked at a 595 once with a thought of buying but that was about 30 years ago. Perhaps I'll wander over to Wraby some time and take the mounts with me and see if they can shed some light on them as they sell both.

I've previously owned a M65 which was fitted with Tikka rings that clamped directly onto the rail, and until recently I owned a 595 which was fitted with Optilock mounts. The Optilock bases on the Tikka were different to the bases on my Sako 85 which has a tapered rail. Though different all three systems worked well and never gave any problem.

Sportsmatch 'Tikka' rings are fine, and will fit your budget.

I have a 6x42 fitted in these on one of my M65's. The mounting rail is parallel, and is the same on all Tikka's - including the T3.

Oh how silly of me I forgot that I have some 26mm Tikka rings by Hilver and bases to screw onto a Rem 700 type action to accept them. Just had a look and the rings are levelr operated so quick release on the screw and are parallel and of about 17mm width.

Fancy forgetting that I had them  . They still have the price label on the rings box ..................... £37.25 seen here on the Mauser M96 Slide Bolt:-

The bases to accept them.

The sportsmatch ones will do you perfectly, all tikka receivers have parallel dovetails, and if anyone thinks sportmatch mounts are not upto scratch then I suggest you ask Accuracy international who makes the one piece mount that sits on their weapons!
You could always but the tikka bases that sportsmatch do and then use any airgun type mounts that have a built in arrestor stud.
Anyone who thinks optilocks are 'the only mounts to use' on a tikka are severely mistaken, they are held onto the dovetail by a single screw and have an arrestor pin, The sportsmatch mounts have two screws holding on to the dovetail and an arrestor pin 'but' with the added bonus of being alloy which means they get a tighter grip on the dovetail than steel.

Obviously your a fan of the Sportsmatch whilst I am not. In fact I can thing of an uglier set of mounts out there. As for alloy gripping better ................................... well over the decades I have seen plenty of alloy mounts slip. Spring powered air rifles really test them out.

spring powered air rifle do indeed test them out...... hence why sportsmatch are the best for those heavy recoiling airguns!! as for them being ugly.... yes indeed, but then again so are moderators on rifles and some stock designs, but function is the primary thing theses days.
as for slipping...that's what arrestor studs are for.
The op had a budget and wanted to find something suitable within that budget.... he has done! perhaps when funds permit he might go for optilocks or some other way overpriced mounts, but that's his choice.

I will have to agree that some mount prices are just silly and far to high in cost. On three of my rifles I have Apel mounts but did not pay the full price for any of them. One set bought new had been sitting on the dealers shelf for many years as the box said BSA repeater. Of course anyone with a little knowledge realised that the late BSA's are the same as the Remington 700 and many other rifles so I bought them and they are on the CF2 in 7x57 :D OK they still cost more than £35. They were also unfashionable at the as they had 30mm rings. I picked up a set of used 1" rings from my local gunshop cheap. Then by chance a few years later I bought a rifle that had a 30 scope fitted. A chance conversation with Ron Wharton produced a used set of bases to fit a P-H and so I had my second set of Apel Roll off mounts which do return to zero.

Alloy mounts of course are not new and need not look like lumps of metal bolted on as an afterthought. Back in the mid 1970 when springers reigned supreme there was a line of mounts for most popular air rifles of the day sold under the brand Rhino. Which was the brand that Surrey guns dreamt up. The gunshop of course only marketed them and had nowt to do with the design and manufacture. That was down to a chap named Mike. When demand got too much he subbed some of the machining out and dear old dad machined many hundreds of ring pairs.

My Feinwerbau Sport still has the Rhino one piece mount that I bought from Mike when I bought the rifle new back in 78 my school friend John got one for his HW80 and HW35 Export. Back then we did a LOT of air rifle shooting and a tin of pellets a week was not unusual.

However all the time people will pay the inflated prices they companies will continue to charge them. £35 for mounts to day IS cheap having experience of making parts and buying tooling ne has to be a little realistic. I have what I believe are a set of Sportsmatch air rifle mounts for a 30 mm scope, they came on a used scope I bought to try out, and they have sat on the shelf ever since. I did put them in the classifieds the other year but no one was interested perhaps i'll e-bay them one free listing weekend. I certainly won't be using them.

That sounds familiar. I no longer have an M65 sob sob but used to find Hillver made mounts to fit Tikka (and I mean proper pre-T3 Tikka!!) which certainly used to be available through Deben.

Brit you still have a feinwerkbau?!?!?!..... hang to it as they are now the preverbial hens teeth!!!!! I sold one a few years back for 35 quid and wish I hadn't!

Yep still have it. it's on it's thrird spring and has all the seals have been replaced a few years back. Fairly un marked too. It cost me £79 from Streatham Armoury. The 4x32 ASI scope was £29. Last one I saw sold fetched £185 and sold quickly too. Mine is the Model 127 being a 5.5mm/ .22 cal one.

I have optilocks on my M65. You can get good second hand deals on here, keep an eye out in the classifieds section. Have Hilver on my M595 and they do the job, but will be looking to change for optilocks as soon as funds allow.

Well, after ordering the scope it was "Out of Stock..." Have cancelled it for now while I figure out if the existing scope is better than I had originally thought....will start a fresh thread on the subject of that brand...
