What .22LR for work/play?

Unicorn,
I would be interested to see a copy of that article somehow... phone picture or scan etc by direct message, if that was OK/possible. I have heard about these suppressed versions and have previously googled it, but never found anything.
I have a spare Quad hunter weight 22lr barrel that I am going to get Richard Pope (Midlands gunsmith) to convert to his fully integrally suppressed version (18” finished length probably), that will go on my P94S Finnfire Range and Varmint. He uses carbon fibre tube, so not imitating anything! I may do the 17HM2 barrel as well.
I will have to have a rummage through the loft to see if I still have it, from memory it was an American book with a small section on rifles from outside the USA both military and civilian , if I can find it I will certainly send you a picture.

I real fancy trying the RWS R50 and also Lapua subs in my rimfires. Pretty sure getting the RWS wont be an issue but have just checked the Lapua website and it would appear they dont do a hollow point subsonic? Does anyone know whether this is the case and also any stockists of Lapua subs (preferably southern half of the UK)?
I'm down to my last box of Lapua subs. Possibly they have dropped the them from their inventory.

Did you get the 16.5" barrel? I bought two of the 20 inch (all I've seen available in the US) and they both drive tacks -literally. I have shot my pair and a friends T1X and all shoot brilliantly. The last time I was out with the "target" configured T1X I put ten shots into 1cm, center to center, off of a bipod at 50 yards with RWS Match. My scope has a very vine reticle which makes shot placement an act of confidence with good ammo. If you come across some, GECO "22LR SEMI AUTO RIFLE" has shot extremely well in both of my T1X. I have shot several different LOTS and all performed well above the price tag. And of course, I clean the actions of my Tikkas but never, ever, the bores.~Muir

Yup, it’s the 16, cracking little rifle so far and as accurate as I’ll ever need!

Nice. Had mine out shooting a 3" steel swinger, off hand at 50 yards today. A little windy for that kind of play but that is the best practice for real world. I let my girl friend shoot it as well. She loved it. Her first comment was "...and this is the factory trigger???" I could see the gears turning.~Muir

Just trying to impress you! Don't be fooled by that old line!

Just trying to impress you! Don't be fooled by that old line!
The first time I took her shooting I handed her an old Brno #2 with the issue open sights. I'd teach that sweet young lady how to shoot, right? I told her to just concentrate on maintaining the sight picture and to emphasize that, I had her shoot at a blank sheet of 8x11 typing paper at 25 yards. "But", I said,"If you need an aiming point, there is this..." and I put a staple in the middle of the sheet.

We walked back to the firing line, she chambered a round, and -standing- shot the staple out of the target. She ejected the empty. "Can we go now? It's cold and the wind is messing with my hair." What could I say?
I still have the target. Still have the girl.
She has the Brno.~Muir

R50 are not expanding HP's. They are round nosed match ammunition and shoot lights out in every rifle I have ever shot them in. Easily in to less than half inch at 54yds in my rifle. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Bizarrely, Eley Match shoot terribly in my Anschutz. RWS Hollow Point subsonics shoot about the same 3/4" at 54yds as the Eley Match.

They all like different ammo, god knows why. Although they are not the out and best HP subsonic in my rifle, of the various .22LR's that I have shot, CCI Subs seem to be the least fussy and tend to shoot well, if not amazingly, in pretty much every rifle I have seen. On the contrary, Winchester seem to be the most picky I have come across. My rifle hates them and so do not most I have seen but when you find a rifle that likes them, it really likes them.

An example below of getting what you pay for with R50. I always use RWS HP Subs for rabbits but when I want to shoot proper targets, I reach for R50

Girls out shoot us always.
My daughter came with me to check my 308 once. All done I offered her 5 rounds for a group.
Never shot a full bore before just 22 and yep she done shot a tighter group than me!

Girls🙄 her mother was handy with a handgun too!

Wow big difference! Deffo need to try a box of those - wonder if they work OK in semi's?
I'd still like to try some Lapua subsonic HP's if anyone knows of any stockists?

FinnFire (Range) ..again.....
Taking advantage of unusually close access to the main house, in the 'counter rabbit' role, and testing the Pard 008LRF for the first time. It took a few minutes to sort/get used to the focus and IR once it was dark, but got there, with a headshot rabbit @ 100m (in the long grass, beyond the hedge in the attached).
I appreciate the Pard's mount is its weak link (zero is way off centre but trying to get it adapted), but if I fit a Picatinny rail to the rifle and decent quick-release mounts to its usual day time scope, will I get decent repeatability when swapping day to night sights and back - I would also rather remove the Pard for storage space and transport, as it looks vulnerable to impact?

thanks

I tried the CCI in everything I had. Burned up 400 rounds trying to get some good groups. Admittedly, I would sometimes get a good group going and have 1 to 3 of them go wild weasel on me. I could see the bullet fly away from the point of aim. The German Gunstock Company has a vid on their T1X and the guy is shooting an amazing 100 yard, indoor group til round #4 that goes inch low and right. The other 9 cut each other. This is the kind of flier I get. No good reason. My Tikkas didn't shoot it, my girlfriends Ruger Precision hated it. (badly) and my Ruger American sporter -another accurate rifle- wouldn't group it at all. I'd run 20-40 rounds through each one before testing for group. Nada.

Federal Ultra Match, which I was recently told was rebranded R50, will shoot tiny, tiny groups. The bullet always lands on the opposite side of the cross hair. If I'm doing my job they are all in the same hole. I love rimfires. If a gun gives me circular .6" groups at 50 yards I'm happy. Happier than one that gives me 4 in a bug hole and one .6 out.~Muir

New CZ 457 £470 shooting Norma 40 gr subs
These Norma are cheap , but very quiet and accuracy @75 yards is bullet on bullet

Both of the ammo you mentioned were crap in mine . CCI segmented, CCI standard and Norma are fantastic and like I said , Norma are brilliant £3.50 box
