Whatever you have that’s dull coloured outdoor clothing.
Stalking is like any other hobby, you can get super geeky and spend thousands on bling , but you don’t need to.

The beard is compulsory. Men without beards can never be true hunters. It’s an actual thing !
What’s the current deer stalking approved min beard length at the moment? Is this part of the DSC 1?

Looking at clothing myself and found this info on the internet. Not sure h2ow accurate it is because there is no mention of a compulsary beard.

How deer color vision works
  • Dichromatic vision:
Unlike humans who have three types of color receptors (trichromats), deer have only two, which limits their color perception to the blue and green parts of the spectrum.
  • What they see:
      • Blues and greens: Deer can see these colors, with some evidence suggesting they can distinguish shades within this range.
  • Reds and oranges: To a deer, these colors look similar to green. This is why a Bengal tiger's orange coat appears to blend in with the green jungle from a deer's perspective.
  • Hunting and safety implications:
      • Clothing with bright orange or red patterns may not be as effective for human visibility as one might think, especially since deer see orange as a muted green.
  • However, for hunters, a full orange outfit can still be seen as a dark blob against a forest background without a camouflage pattern to break it up.
  • Blue jeans are more vivid to a deer than orange.
  • It's also important to avoid UV brighteners in detergents on hunting clothes, as they can cause clothing to glow to a deer.

Deer have instinct imprinted in them from hundreds of previous generations, when they were hunted way back then all these obsessed colour codded stalkers did not exist! Marketing drives the clothing sales, watch enough deer and they or one/two/three are heads up while others feed.
Make a move and if one just happens to turn and look your way they win in the "I see you first game" they see shadows a different profile of a tree.
I did a mile detour with the wind in my face following a hedge and cloud cover crawled the last bit and had to get up to get set up.
The 30 fallow 250 yds were all looking at me as the sun broke through the clouds and the thin winter hedge gave my profile away lol
Mind you I have had a red hind come out with just enough light to clock her 40 yds away put a hole in her and nearly got run over with the rest bolting through a couple of seconds after.
Anything which they look at day in day out if it is not right is enough to push their instinct button.
Move at the wrong time, white face white hands is not the best, watch some of the YouTube stalkers pointing even Stevie Wonder could see them lol

Hi.

My 2 p’s worth.

Budget
trial and error.

I’m an ex climber and fellrunner. So a clothing was my thing and super super geeky too.
When I was climbing I was in full Gore-tex by Patagonia and other expensive/poncey brands like Mammut and Haglofs.

Firstly, what kind of stalking are you doing?
Check out Thomas Straker’s Youtube video “Stalking and cooking red deer in Scotland”.
I think this shows a good stalk with genuine weather.

I have a Deer hunter coat and trousers.
Fantastic fabric. I never pay full price either.
The fabric is very breathable.
The wind gets in though and there is a manufacturing issue with both. But hey how.
The trousers are great for sitting around on the Airgun range and attempting pest control.

I also have a Ridgline jacket. Yes yes i here the purists hough and puff.
It is hot. But this where the layering comes in to it.

I was into my Helly Hansen/Poly properlyene based fabrics.

However, I am now completely into as much natural fibre.
Base layer’s, someone else has said go with a solid base layer and Merino wool.
I used my Ridgeline recently. Very thin Polypropylene base layer and then a proper old school wool army jumper.

I do use vinted
I paid £150 for the Ridgeline from Farmers Friend Exeter
My Deer hunter stuff is Deer Tex and for the money I can’t fault it.
I get my clothes from the Sportmans Gun Centre Exeter.

My next clothing purchase is going to be the Wool Power Merino wool.
I can get this from W Slack & Son.

I would just buy stuff and see what works for you.

Ex miliatry, ebay and Vinted.

Just do it and have fun.

Now if I have the money what would I buy?

I think it would be Harkila which uses Gore-Tex
But then you have Sitka, Kuiu & Kryptek
But Harkila is European.

we have proper wet weather here don’t we.

Have fun and enjoy getting out

G.

I am a cheapskate, always used green cargo/work trousers. Lightweight and cheap enough. I expect to get wet but they dry quickly in any breeze. I am stalking in lowland conditions and only for 4 hours at a time, would be a different story on the hill in winter. Jacket is ex army DPM. Not supposed to be waterproof but takes a lot to get through it. I have tried various things but always come back to these. Always wear gloves, and a face mask as at the moment as I don’t have a beard. 😁

I’m starting to have a good understanding of deer stalking and am now sorting out range time and my first deer stalk soon ( hopefully if not in the new year ) with the help of user on this website ( thank you ) I’m now wondering for someone who is just getting into it what clothing would you recommend for a stalk / equipment ( taking into account I’m doing a probably guided stalk . ) apart from basic warm and green clothing I do have very good binoculars
You don't even really need green clothing as deer don't see so much colour vision . Binos are not required but it does mean you can see them when your guide spots one

You can shoot deer in blue jeans a red T shirt and a blue pak a Mac , done it!

If on a severe budget then nothing at all wrong with current issue British Army MPT.
I purchased last week in Coldstream brand new unissued British Army Combat windproof smock for £40.
Trousers are about £20. Good pair boots £50
If you can afford it Musto make excellent waterproof trousers. I have 2 pairs both purchased SH from SDF. Look online for new gortex Musto.
Good hat or cap, glooves essential.Mc Wets climatic are brilliant.
Quad sticks essential.
Thermal LRF and compact set of bins. Vortex.
If wellies then Skellerup Quatro sport if you want dry warm feet. Heavy but nigh on indestructible. Pringle theal socks are good.
Mora knife. Orange or yellow handle so you don't loose it.
All the rest you probably have.
D

2 options here - If you own a creed - just need a wax before you go out and then a thong ..cheap and easy
Normal people - whatever you find comfortable. I prefer to layer up so if its cold I wear thermal base layers and a cheap pair of work trousers (DIY type work). Same thermal base layer for top then a shirt, jumper, fleece and jacket (less if its cold). Pop a waterproof over the top if needed.

Getting back to a serious point , you won’t go far wrong with military surplus , head to toe great prices , camo or drab colours ,
