When other people win...

1. Subject the ST site owners to a yet to be determined court case; there are any number of matters that exercise me, and squander the lot on my legal team and compensation.

2. Purchase Conetrol (US scope rings & mounts manufacturer for the uneducated) and bring it kicking & screaming into the 21st Century and commencing with development of a proprietary contoured rail.

3. Organise and fully fund a SD “Guns & Heads” music festival with suitable and fully vetted trade stands. Destined to be the copper standard for such ventures.

If i had that kind of money i would set up a shooting organisation with a legal fighting fund to challenge every overzealous jobsworth refusal of grants and variations

Also fight to help members who have had guns taken / removed off the back of false accusations from exes / bitter neighbours etc who's case and innocence has been proven but the police are dragging heels on returning there property

Perhaps also a 24hr call out RFD facility in every county in the country so when someone is faced with false accusations or the police on there doorstep they can comply by handing over there firearms if they wish but to an on call RFD instead of the police so they know they are going to be stored correctly

Buy up and revamp any shooting grounds / facilities that come up

Anyway back in the real world ...

So Joe and Jesse Thwaite have won £184,000,000 on the Lottery.

Couple of things spring to my bitter and twisted mind.

1) Why on earth would you go public with news of your win?
I wouldn't even tell my wife.

2) They are delighted that they can now afford to get the roof fixed on their house.
If that is the limit of their imagination, then they should not be allowed to enter the Lottery.😁

Anyhoo,

As I said...nice to see others winning competitions...🤥

So, to my question.

A big win on the Lottery - what would you do?

Heaven knows, I have spent that win over and over in my head - and I am not proud of where some of the money went...😈

Win the lottery! You can't even win the SD draw lol.

I wouldn’t go public.

They will undoubtedly be inundated with requests for money from everyone under the sun, including distant relatives, “long lost friends”, strangers etc etc. etc.

The husband here was previously married and has 2 children with his former wife. They split up about 10 years ago. His ex wife then remarried and that relationship ended too. I know this as “friends” of the former wife contacted a newspaper (probably selling the story) they told how the ex wife was struggling financially and wondered if she would now be driving a new Ferrari….All this within 24 hours of going public!

They seem to be grounded people who apparently will be giving money to friends and family, but to announce themselves winners of a £184 million pound jackpot on TV is a big mistake in my opinion. A lot of people will not be happy for them, just jealous and envious.

If they had made the same amount of money from business, they would undoubtedly be left alone. Why make a rod for your own back? Most of these couples that win these huge amounts and go public usually end up divorcing.

I wonder how you keep winning £184M quite, as soon as you move to a big/massive/country estate and start giving away millions to family and friends I think it might start leak out ?

It's really a lot to take in, that much money. And yes, after a few big purchases and give-aways, you'd have to be going some to spend the interest. Especially the way interest rates are going at the moment.

I don't think that couple, when they gave their first interviews had really let the amount sink in. They bought some bedroom furniture. Now maybe they'll stick in the house they've got, but probably not I think.

As for me, apart from the obvious answers about holidays, house, vehicles, spreading good cheer amongst the family, guns and so on, I really have no idea. The thought about having an estate with deer and a lowland shoot appeals. As would donating some to deserving charidees, where I know the dosh would get to it's intended source.

It'd certainly be a problem. But I think I'd be up to it.

You're right. You'd have to keep wearing those jogging bottoms and going to the food bank.

£181m is enough to give everyone I know £1m each or £90m for everyone I like!

I’d put £150,000,000 into a charity that creates affordable housing for people with jobs. For the ‘just about managings’

I’d buy a huge yacht and set it up to go baiting Somali pirates. Think home alone but on the sea.

Obviously set aside enough for me to live my life too the fullest, Travel the world, Hunt and appreciate the species I truly care about. (You would see me over In Canada/Alaska with the caribou often I think...)
.
But also helping the stalking community where possible, And charities.
Developing land to behave somewhat like the Public land In America would be a lovely thing to do In my opinion, Obviously the amount of people on the land couldn't be the same but perhaps taking there raffle system that gains "Points" over time, Allowing people to pretty much guarantee a hunt on the land within 10 years.
Not to mention a big chunk of land could also be used for other things, Although probably no forest regrowth projects.... to the extent they want every deer killed on site.....

Possibly, but you wouldn't have to let on how much you had actually won. It's the sheer amount that can cause problems, i.e. Britain's biggest lottery win.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some pressure from Camelot to go public either.

Apparently, the odds of winning is 139m:1 so you could wait until it’s up there again and buy another win.

One thing I’d never do is touch the capital

It takes a huge effort under normal circumstances to acquire such a sum

180 million makes for a powerful money making engine

I’d use some of the interest for the projects that interest me and the folk dear to me

Well invested, and now from somewhere off shore, I’d have about 15 mill per annum in interest

Put 5 mill aside to offset inflation (a bit) and that is almost a million a month to play with

Not that I’ve thought about it much 😇😎
