A word of caution for all , don’t forget your PPE . This is a sika yearling hind shot about a month ago. It was in a small group of about 5 hinds and yearlings. Looked like any other healthy deer, that is until I put my hand into the chest and felt the peas on the lung surface.

I wasn’t convinced it was TB but decided it best to submit the pluck for testing .
Results a couple of weeks later :
Mycobacterium bovis from lung lesions .
And histopathological lesion of tuberculosis pneumonia!!
A first for me in 20 years.
So the take home, you can get unusual presentations of TB too. They don’t all have to be big pus filled abscess’s . Parasitic diseases was also consideration.
So remember take plenty of gloves with you and have a few strong bags and cable ties in the car just in case you need to transport the gralloch.
