Where do I start?

Hi Everyone,

I am looking at getting back into stalking again after I recently got my FAC back after a long period without a rifle. I did dabble with stalking back in the mid 90's but I was very much a novice, although I certainly got my hands dirty with some Roe, Fallow and the odd Red.

I live up in North East Wales where we do have some Fallow but they are limited to central North Wales. I keep praying and hoping to see Roe become established here but from what others are saying they are having a tough time with Lampers and poachers (allegedly!). I should also admit that at the moment I don't have a full-bore on my ticket but good old North Wales Police were good enough to give me an open ticket for my .17HMR and .22LR recently, so I am hoping I can ask for something a bit more suitable for Deer.... a 6.5 x 55 seems to interest me (now there's a subject!).

Things seem to have changed a lot since the 90's and an entire industry has grown around the DSC. I could do with some sort of refresher experience (it's been a while!) and I'm really not too sure of which route to take next, what would you advise?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Roelander,

If you can find someone to take you out or pay for one or two stalks here and there with a guide around your area then that should get you back into it. I started (many years ago) by going out with stalking guides, built up a good relationship with people by being seen doing it and putting the time in.

It takes time, so good luck and don't be put off you might find you get hooked like most on this site
