Which blaser?

Hi,

I have recently acquired an R8 pro (not the success). I have no regrets!

Having the action over the trigger combined with a 20" semi weight fluted barrel chambered in 308 makes this a very pointable, light rifle.

Having moved across from a heavier and longer Sauer 202 this has been a game change. Probably just me though!

Although I loved the feel and handling on the success I found I had to lift my thumb out of the stock once on target to cock the rifle. I was of the opinion that this was hassle and would probably result in me not using the thumb hole for anything other than longer shots where there is no chance of the target moving so I put the cash towards fluting. Personal preference really. I'm sure everyone else manages just fine.

I'm sure you'll enjoy one if you do take the plunge.

Regards

they are fine rifles (i'll deny I said that if pressed!) I personally think they are over priced for what they are and I think the trigger group being part of the mag is massive mistake but saying all that they are fine rifles.

Thanks, that's very helpful.
Cheers

totally agree. i don't see the benefit of the thumbhole at all.

I have an R8 Pro Success with .243 and .270 Barrels. Not sure I'd go for the thumb hole stock again and I was well suited with the Plain-Jane synthetic on my old R93 too. Overall I'd say that I've been more than pleased with my Blasers.

I should state that if I hunted in mountains or at longer ranges where game can be observed I would have gone for the thumbehole. You really can secure that rifle. The stock appears very comfortable and controllable.

Most of of my shooting is in woodland, so can be short and sharp. Hence my choice.

Best to try both if possible and go through all the actions you would during a stalk. Even to the point of cocking the rifle.

Best of luck!

It's early days yet - I can only conclude that so far this thread has gone under the radar of the Blaser-bashers ;)

Give them time......

sssshhhhh! We're all gathering with our tikka's, sako's, Mausers, Merkels etc later - we will then light the torches and raise the pitchforks :D

I've just moved to "the dark side" after 7 years of using a sako 75. I decided on an R8 success in 30-06 and so far been really happy with it!! The handling and versatility it offers is fantastic! I will hold on to the sako for know- but can see it becoming redundant in time!!

Had a R93 for 4 years, accounted foe a fair few fox and a few deer, a couple of Boar. Had Ruger, Steyr, and Tikka, never was 100% confident in any of them, but with the R93 I feel its always down to me! Did have a couple of issues at first with the "Blaser click", but soon learned not to fanny about and close the bolt positively! Also with my optics I can't remove the mag, so have to remove unspent rounds manually, but these are both insignificant problems to me. Got .243 and .308 tubes, and would buy another in a heartbeat
Kev.

I have the Blaser R8 Professional Success Leather, Thumb-hole, in .223 .308 & 6.5x55.
I love the thumb-hole stock and may have to start using the other shoulder due to weakening right eye so that's an added bonus.
Sold my Sako 75, Sauer 202 and Howa to help towards the Blaser and haven't regretted the move.
Once again Steve Beaty at Ivythorn Sporting did me excellent deals on all the guns mods and scopes and I would recommend him for his helpfulness.

R8 & R93 both excellent rifles in their various models.....R8 wasn't produced when I made my choice, but I wanted a single shot rifle & selected the Blaser K95 Luxus. Brilliant little rifle and should be in the 'viewing' list...not everyone's cup of tea, but an excellent weapon for me & not one I shall ever part with.

I've been shooting blaser rifles since the first r93 came out, they are quite simply the best hunting rifle you can buy, it's well worth the money whichever one you go for I'm standing by my r93 but if I could I would put a thumbhole stock on it having used my friends to good effect. Buy one its the only set up you'll ever need !

And there you go. Blaser's finest deer stalking rifle is the K95. Why only yesterday I managed a deer with one. Seriously try to have a hold of one before you commit to an R8, failing that the BBF97 is a fantastic combination gun.
Blaser makes more models than just the R93 and R8.

I own a Tikkas and Sakos but since I bought my Blaser pro success a couple of years ago with 243 and 308 barrel I'm afraid to say they've never come out of the cabinet, I'm very happy with it and I can honestly say I will never change itimage.webp

I have Blaser Monza in 223, 243 and 308 with fluted barrels & Z6i optics, all are fantastic, try Chris @ Swillington he will always help you out and I'm sure will be keen on price also.

Same boat, I have 75 in .308 with a pacnor barrel.
Blaser is a well thought out bit of kit I've 6.5x55 and .243.
Not fussy, good triggers and compact.

I have to say the magazine on the 75 is probably one of the best out there, top load, drop out whatever. The R93 isn't as good on that front imo
