Which rifle for red and boar 30-06 or .300win mag

Im considering a new acquisition and quite fancy something with a bit more clout than my 7mm-08. I'm pretty sure that .30 caliber is the way forward (bullet choice for reloading and the availability of factory ammunition if required).
I'd very much like to hear opinions from anyone with experience of the .300win mag in particular, but also the 30-06.

Hi.was in a similar situation myself.Already own a 308 which was more than enough for the job your describing.But could not take it to France where I have boar shooting.I went for a 7mm rem mag in the end.I find it a bit more controllable than the 300 win mag,and not as much overkill.30-06 is great,but again not able to hunt with it where I needed to.

I had a .300 WM for a while. Recoil was ok but just to much rifle to lug around. .308, 30-06 are good cals if your not going to France. 9.3x62 for That little extra umph.

I went for the 330WM as it is likely I will be going to France at some point
you don't need to chuck them at the limit of its capability!

I just got some 200gr Norma Oryx and 185gr Lapua Mega for the purpose of knocking big stags (and boar) off their feet

out here in new zealand i use a 7mm stw (sporting times western) its a big round and alot of clout but with proper bullet selection it does the job without too much damage.

I've had a .300 WM for years, can't fault it. Certainly authoritative. Never owned a 30-06 but used one plenty of times. It does exactly the same thing but about 150fps slower with same bullet weight. Dead is dead I guess and at Deer ranges (up to 300) trajectory/windage argument is splitting hairs really.

Hi, Never bought or sought any, always reloaded, however I no longer buy to neck down, as the outside of the cartridge head is undersized by a few thou, & extractor can't get a grip, so only source 7mm WSM brass for it.

I have shot a few boar, and seen a fair few others hit. The fastest and most effective kills that I have seen have been with a 300wm, it really puts them down....

Of course if you are Franz Albrect, and can hit them in the earhole, a 130gr pill from a 270 will be somewhat effective...

How far you going to shoot?
Iam oft droping pigs on the spot with a 308, my mate with his 3006 need oft a trackingdog (deadly shot's). 50-100meters.
more power is not always better

t me they don't move far after taking one of those pills. I use 300gr nostler partitions but have some silver tips and some bearclaw foe the foreign stuff.
