Whilst I'm sitting here, I'll type this up...

After having a complete blank yesterday, not even seeing one deer, I decided to pop out again this morning.

Just a quick one mind you, a couple of hours before work.

Nice bit of stalking to a lovely broadside on a Roe.

I can't see the rear end properly to sex it, but I'm pretty sure I see two white "things" on the head. I opt to let it go. You lot can tell me if I was right or wrong.

It's a shame, as I'm heading back towards the truck now, got to go and do some actual paid work.

I'm obviously quiet, I didn't even wake this lazy fox. I leave him be. It'd not exactly be cricket whilst it's snoozing.

I'm on my way through the last 100m of wood, just before the truck. Heat, movement... Fallow!

I'm up on sticks, no safe shot where they currently are but if they move left they'll have the bank behind them.

They do move left and I've a lovely clear shot through the trees.

Bang! Thud...

They all run off, some left, some right. One of the left runners doubles back and stops at the shot site.

Bang! Thud...

Well that's my first solo double.

The shot site has plenty of blood, I could see it on the thermal. I scan around and see one lying off to the right, but no sign of the other. There's a blood trail off to the left, so I follow it. It's not long until I see a little pricket. Sods law they both dropped in opposite directions. I drag the pricket over to the other one.

Time is really pressing on now, so I get on with the gralloch and then go and get the truck. Luckily they're both right by the field gate at the edge of the wood. Easiest extraction yet!

I drive down the field, then it suddenly turns into a bog. Oops.

So, as the title says... I'll type this up whilst I sit and wait for the farmer to dig this cockle out 😁

Work can be put off until tomorrow.

Well done. It looked to be a button buck but I couldn't see pizzle or rear end properly, although the does anal tush may have been more visible when departing. Right call, if in doubt, don't.
Hope you got the truck out ok.
Congratulations on the double.

Congratulations on the double.
I think you're right. No tush to be seen as it moved away.

Home, deer hung in the chiller, showered... Just in time for lunch.

If these doubles present themselves more often, I'll need a bigger chiller than my Yazoo shop special.

Luckily these were both young. 32.46kg for the larger pricket
