You might like to try Agria. I went to them through BASC.
Had an unfortunate event with my working cocker, which resulted in a claim.
I can't praise them high enough. Claim settled in seven days.

funny enough i was briefly look at basc and seen they recommended Agria.

All three of mine are with Agria, been a bloody minefield sorting policies tbh, be very careful when comparing different insurers and their policies. Settled on Agria in the end as the level of cover was what I wanted, my Lab was already insured with them and I'd had to claim some years ago (to be told by the vet she had months to live but 4 years later is still going strong but that's another story) which they paid out no problem. May not be the cheapest but, they seem overall a reasonable company.

My insurer only stipulates that it won't insure dogs that work in security environments and gundogs have never been mentioned so it's a case of ask me no questions and I'll tell no lies.

I'm another who uses Agria through BASC
My Lab did a Cruciate Ligament midway through January and has just had to have a TPLO operation (thank god she is insured!!)
Agria have been very good through out the whole process - prompt and friendly service
