Hi,looking at at getting a new scope for my .270 for deer stalking and would like a zeiss or Swarovski. Anyone bought a new scope recently and have any advice / reviews?thanks

Was thinking of getting an illuminated reticle, don't know if Khales do one? Does anyone use an illuminated reticle and us it much better than the standard reticle?

Kahles do illuminated reticules. IR are good but not essential, they can take you well past the legal time for shooting deer!

I picked up my Meopta ZD 3-12x50 (IR) in excellent condition, only 20-months old for £425 off the Second Hand scope section of Gunstar. An excellent mid-budget scope (£790 retail) with superb optics and the durability one would expect from a scope designed for the defence sector.

Not to sure about going down the secondhand road think it might be to much of a gamble.

I hear you and buying second-hand didn't work out with one of my rifles. The scope however had 4-months warranty left and giving access to a quality mid-range scope felt worth the risk, which I'm thankful to say paid off.

both makes you mention are first class but swarovski has the better after sale service

Z6i 2-12 x 50 takes some beating for general stalking. I've tried most stuff and settled for Swaro's on my stalking rifles.

have heard that zeiss offer lifetime warranty whatever that means, I'm assuming thats the leupold type thing. Must check with zeiss

i use a ziess 2.5-10x50 victory diavari illuminated and i find it a fantastic scope with very good light gathering (will keep up with my swaro 10x50slc binos), i tryed out a swaro in the shop but liked the ziess as it seemed to suit my eyes better so i would suggest you have a look through a couple before you lay down your cash

Swaro Z6i 3-18x50 was my choice. I also have Swaro binos and I know what I can see through one, I can see through the other. Worth bearing that in mind when sizing up a scope as there can be nothing worse than not being able to pick up your quarry in the scope, having seen it through the bins!
