Meindl Dovre Extreme GTX Or Harkila Pro Hunter Kevlar Boots

I bought a pair of mendl in the summer very very happy with them. Can't see me changing makes now

Even the Mendl sports wax is pretty good and seems to make a big difference to the boots, had a few soakings to but feet dry.

Had 3 pair of Harkila, 1st pair were comfy but stiching patch at heel went quickly and know of a few other pairs the same, last 2 pairs were cheap in a sale but were really rubbish. Last pair have done next to nothing and leak right round sole/leather so even Yeti gaiters dinae keep ur feet dry.

If ur boots are fairly good with good grip/soles but leaky buy a pair of yeti gaiters, that pair of harkilas had a 3" hole at both heels yet i could still wade throu burns keeping my feet dry with the yeti's on, managed to get another 3 seasons out of them with mainly dry feet

The bigest thing if ur over the top of ur wellies a pair of shorter leather boots are not going to help. Not much is waterproof from the hole ur foot goes in.
U mibee need a pair of cheap waders, if it carries on raining like this mibee need some chesty's:doh:

I have two pairs of the berghaus gtx gaiters, they are as waterproof as toilet paper. I would have reservations buying anything berghaus now.
I have the meindl army pro and find them great. They are in their fourth season now and are still waterproof. My only criticism of them is that the sole can be slippy on hard wet surfaces. I'm not sure if the dovre has the same sole or not.

I have a few berghaus and really rate them, got a couple of jackets (thing below gore tex) only 50-70 quid and pretty water proof, for the money there excellent takes a really wet day, and a pair of gore tex leggings that have always kept me dry no matter wot.

The yeti's are excellent gaiters and fit right round the sole of the boot, usually have to silicon/aquasure them on to hunting boots as not designed for them

Don't really beleive anything breatheable is waterproof. Had some horrendous soaking on grouse and everyone was soaked no matter how expensive there waterproofs are and ur feet end up soaked even with good boots as runs down ur legs in.

I've just retired my pair of Meindl GTX boots that lasted 10 years! (Not worn exclusively however). The leather is still going strong and have never leaked, but the soles are worn out and have disintegrated.

I've just ordered a pair of Hanwag Tatra Top GTX boots to see how they compare.

Well my Meindl Torrontos kicked Arse at a driven boar hunt in the snow today of the Czech Republic and my Ridgeline Monsoon Elite saw me yanking up some pretty serious country with a Norgie and Swandri Ranger layered beneath.

What's the problem?

I have been dry and comfy all day.

I replaced my worn out meindls with a pair of harkillas, first pair leaked, second pair leaked also. No refund offered as I was told they never leak despite having two wet feet. Meindls all the way, hard wearing and real comfortable

Gately169,
I would advise you to dont narrow down your boot choice until you have tried them on. Many boots have great features but if they dont fit you then they are of no use. I was keen on the Meindl boots but they are too wide for me. I also bought 2 different brands of expensive hiking boots with all the bells and whistles and both had to go back as they leaked. At both shops I had a fight on my hands, I did get my money back in the end but I would also recommend you buy boots from a dealer thats recommended and one that stands behind what they sell. I must say I am now being quite careful before buying another pair. A friend of mine recommends a shop near Brecon that has a big container of water in the shop that you can go and stand in to test the boots. I may just wait until I get there next and buy with confidence.

Hanwag Trapper, just as good as Meindl but with better rubber on the sole.

Agreed, I rate Hanwag a better boot than Meindls, I would also recommend Game and Supplies in Selkirk, they'll stand by what they sell, dealt with them for years, never ever a problem.

Can't comment on the Hanwag but I have had a pair of Dovre extremes for years and they have never leaked. Might also be worth having a look at Lundhags I have a pair of them at the moment and am very pleased. Had some Harklia wellies which leaked within a year! I agree with Dawnrazors comments about Game and Country , their service is great.

Well guys, went via the local gun shop tonight, tried on a few boots and picked up a pair. Meindl's after all

Go for the Meindls, Harkila aren't good at footwear. Really liked their wellies but zips get failing and had issues with their other boots. Clothing is great, footwear cr*p!

Good choice Gately169 !
I have those, they are a cracking pair of boots, get a good, recommended boot conditioner / waterproofer, providing you clean and dry the boot correctly after use
Ie. Not on top of a radiator !
They will last you years.
