Boat trip
Well what a day leaving home bright and early saw myself and kev arrive at lyme bay in just over an hour due to the lack of traffic and despite hitting a maggpie while doing 90 err i mean 60 our drive down was very enjoyable.
Parking up i was soon trying to remove the said magpie from the grill and hide its remains under the car while being watched by two rather amused holiday makers.
Terry then pulled up and we headed off in the direction of the beach front cafe for a nice fried breakfast and couple of coffees whilst sayingour hellos with other members of the party.
I was soon abourd the A TEAMS boat piloted by the owner harry may and decided to get tackled up while we prepared to depart from the harbour on a rather nice looking calm sea.
I decided to go armed with a six and a half foot 20ib class shimano beastmaster rod with stainless eyes and a synthetic butt fitted with a daiwa SL20 multiplier reel.
Four hundred yards of 30ib spun spidder wire were necked down to a 20ib leader of amnesia, followed by a zip boom ,sharp point hook as i find bt,s useless [blunt tips] culminating in a hand loaded rim shampfered super polished 8oz lead.
Within minutes of our arrival at the reef we were all soon hauling fish in over the gunnels with the skipper seriously at risk of developing tennis elbow from the constant use of the priest which was used to administer the last rights to our ever increaseing catch.
I am sure the boat was developing a list to one side due to the sudden increase in pounds of fish now filling the catch baskets
Despite having a couple of first time fishermen on board they pulled out all the stops boating fish after fish obviously giving it 100% knowing they were part of the winning team on the day and not wanting to let the side down
I must appologise for the lack of pictures but unlike the B TEAM who had lulls between there infrequent catch rate the A TEAM were all constantly into fish
and didnt have time to stop.
Congratulations must go to kennyc who won the prize for the most speciese on the day with six
although he obviusly boarded the wrong boat
it was still a very well deserved win.
The day was rounded off with a kind invitation of a bbq/braai with ian and jo who proved to be excellant host laying on a superb banquet which if the truth be known could have cattered for thirty let alone the 11 of us that were fortunate enough to attend.
[MANY THANKS ON BEHALF OF US ALL ]
To sum up the day and joking aside it was great weather followed by great fishing and even greater company with plenty of friendly banter and rivory along the way and anyone that couldnt make it i am sorry to say really did miss out.
Now looking forward to the next trip out of weymouth/poole were the fish will be even bigger and fight even harder so if you fancy a great day out get your name down early as its going to fill up fast.
First timmers would be more than welcome and if you need any tips or advice dont hesitate to ask the A TEAM who in true sportsmanship like fasion will be only to glad to help out im sure
Well done rupert for making it happen and to ALL who attended for making it a great day and one to remember.
