Reloading .270

Hi
can anyone tell me what they using in the .270?
i got 150 grn spritzer bt, and h1000 powder. I have N160 as well .

i have reloaded for 140grn spitzer bt but left all my loading info at home and was going to do some reloading at work.

any help be great.

I use 54 grains of H4831 with CCU primer and Speer 130 grain SP. Lovely soft round that performs great at sensible stalking ranges

I have just started reloading 150gr RN bullets in 270. I tested 2 factory loads, Norma and Federal in 150gr loads. The Federal ran at 2785fps and Norma at 2740 average. I loaded 3 different powders with 150gr RN bullets. 56.5gr Rl22 averaged 2750fps, 55gr Vit N560 averaged 2660fps, 56gr of a now unavailable powder H450 averaged 2810fps.
Factory 130gr bullet loads averaged 2970fps , but I load 130gr Nosler part. bullets with 58gr of H4831 giving me 2790fps average. All my loads where accurate,I do have some Vit N160 but according to my manual N560 should be faster so never tried it I hope that's some help.

I'm using N160 in my .270. 57.0grns with a 130grn sierra gameking and cci primer. Lovely ragged one hole group and a good performer.

ironmatt, I have just read your thread as above, are you certain about 57.0grns of N160 powder. The reason I query this is, according to my Sierra Reloading manual the maximum is 50.3 grns of N160, which produces 2800 fps muzzle velocity. I would like you to confirm this thread. many thanks

Viht manual gives max charge for a 130gr bullet in the order of 62.0gr, which I much more in line with my loads - and what ironmatt and Colonel have done.
50gr will barely get it out of the muzzle....!!

For a 130 gr bullet, 55.0 gr of VV N-160 should be about max, at 3,100 fps.

You can’t be quoting from a printed Sierra manual, as none of them (#2, #4, or #5) recommend Vit N160 for the 130gr in .270. It isn’t the best choice, but is probably the most convenient. This is where mistakes happen.

Sierra do recommend the much slower Vit N165 at 59.4 MAX for the 130gr, so by inference 57.0grs of N160 is excessive & 62.0grs of it is suicidal. Patrickt is merely pointing out what’s recommended in the latest Sierra Manual (#5) for the 150gr, which does show a MAX of 50.3 N160.

November 2007 - 24" Barrel: Hornady 140 grains Interlock BTSP - 52.4 grains Viht N160 - 2858 fps.
