Homemade fibreglass rifle stock - Sako 75 A1

Thanks, edi! Your kind words are much appreciated!

The only difference is if you look at my stock close up you see many imperfections (which makes it unique!), and mine probably weighs the same as 2 of your stocks.

Believe me we also fight with surface imperfections and that after 10 years of production. I had a young French composites engineer doing his internship with us. He worked for a company making airbus composite parts. Even in that industry not all is perfect and he could not believe the qualities we achieve with simple methods.

Thank you, that is encouraging.

With the fibreglass it is easier because I can use thickened resin to make a gel coat to fill the tight corners.

With the carbon fibre I can't thicken the resin so am going to try and let the first coat of resin get very tacky (couple of hours on top of Aga stove) before laying the first layer of cf then thickened resin with dark pigment and then extra layers. Lots of experimenting! It is really fun.

In the epoxy resin world we used to use a 5minute cure epoxy Devcon good for joining sections again 2 part system, you have to be quick as cured in 5mins so no dithering and you'll need a bucket of water to put the residue mix pot in as it is quite volatile in a mass when the curing starts best put outside. Also you need good quality rubber gloves not "marigolds" as they deteriorate while working with the resin we used a glove suitable for acids they're similar to Marigolds but black or blue was the colour code and did not degrade. Here is another boring fact you can repair Fibreglass Grp products with epoxy resins but Grp polyester will not repair or adhere to epoxy resin made items .
