Protetct Your Firearms & Shotguns With Smartwater

Goes on to say help protect your firearms and/or shotguns from theives.

Buy Smartwater for one-off 8.95 , covers you for 5 years. Apparently its use is proven to strongly deter burglars by up to 85%.

Why not Jjst spray the front of your house with and be done with it I say.

I guess everyone in Met area will be getting one.

Used SmartWater years ago on couple Ducatis I had, one was stolen never to be seen again, then lo & behold parts turned up
3 years later in a guys lock-up that was ringing bikes, traced through Smart Water so it does work, certainly didn't deter the low life
from stealing bike in the first place, even though it was stickered up stating SmartWater was in use, also no discount from insurers for
using either - total waste of time/money as far as FA are concerned (only my opinion)..

Yep , can understand it on household items . Can't quite see it on firearms.

Glad to see it kind of works.

Some time back I was talking to one of the Smartwater folk and the topic came round to it's removal. He said it had to be water based for environment reasons, they couldn't use solvent. So I asked him outright if there was any truth in the rumour I heard about solvents destroying / removing it. I'd been told that if a stolen item was sprayed with thinners then it either washed off the smart water or destroyed the print if left on (this was in relation to land Rover thefts) He admitted this was true, if said thieves fill a gun with thinners and blast a stolen item the smartwater then becomes either illegible or simply washes off.
Anyone know if this is still true?

I had it on a motorbike too. Didn't get stolen though. To be honest, thieves think that they won't be caught, so as a deterrent it seems limited.

As for firearms, apart from perhaps the odd old thing with no serial numbers, the cops know who owns which gun, because we spend half our lives telling them. So what's the advantage there?

Better than nothing I suppose, but money spent on physical security is money better spent I feel.

It's not from the Met, it's from a marketing company that now has all the details of FAC/SGC holders with the Met's region

If some pikey low life scumbag stole my kit, I'm not certain I'd want it back again. I'd feel like it had been defiled...

On the other hand, if it helps put said pikey low life scumbag behind bars, then it is probably worth using smart water.

Absolutely no deterrence to a terrorist though...
