My father always taught me in Germany many years ago that you should never wash your shooting clothing. dry it out and brush it off 
Sounds like an excuse to stay dirty and to go around smelling like a dead skunk to me.
Nothing wrong in washing your stalking/shooting kit. Just don't wash it in modern detergents that have whiteners or colour enhancers in. Hand washing in warm water and pure unscented soap flakes then rinsed well and hung out to dry in fresh air is perfectly acceptable and actually works very well.

I had better look for a job as a bog cleaner for a tampon supply source (then I could put them in the classifieds as 10 packs, yuk) as my missus don"t need them any more.

I hung a stags full bladder in a tree and nary a mark was found under it two weeks later.
I also tried hanging the G F`s chungs from a tree,as soon as that was done a blowfly landed on the crutch and promptly spewed!
This is she who must be obeyed on the right!

Neutralize odors when possible and use cover up and attract scents sparingly. Clean clothes are secondary to your nose and mouth odors and those from your hair. Clothes that smell of perfumed detergent are a sure fire way to get a deers attention so no perfumes, etc. Here's a great link: http://www.atsko.com/products/ check out the articles, do away with the UV glow and good stalking.

Funny but thats how my kit was this morning when we went out, mind you it was more like the scent of Pigeons and Geese! Need to get my kit sorted Although it was perfect for the cold I will refine it some more...

My clothes weren't too bad today, that's because they were dry, wait til it rains!

Back to the question, advise is to use eco detergents which do not contain optical brighteners and the alike. I use Sainsburys Ecover and if the garments are very dirty and bloody a bit of vanish powder. Does the trick.
don't get washed that often and Eau De Basil does have its advantages!

I used to get clean sugar bags to carry my kills home , and would use a with pack straps attatched ,bag until it almost fell apart .. They would become very brown in colour and smell like a bunch of deer on a hot day .. On four occasions I had left the bag by a tree while I went scouting further along the ridge , and on my return there was a deer ,with its nose right on the bag investigating , easy shot , next thing deer was in the bag , not taking much notice of anything .. Rob
