4x4 insurance price hikes

Just received my Vitara renewal via Adrian Flux. Last year Fully comp 7 yrs NCB under 4k miles £164.

This year quote £216!!!

Contacted Lancaster insurance for quote as had £15 off offer. Quote was £147 !!!!!!

Ironically it is underwritten by the same syndicate as the AF quote. Identical terms.

So moving to Lancaster.

Also please note on current renewals they should tell you what your previous premium was. Guess what couldn't see it on my latest AF renewal.

You do realise that the IPT has gone up to 12% and will keep going up until it is in line with VAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loyalty is worth nothing in insurance. I've even cancelled and taken out new cover with the same insurer Before bow because their quote for a new customer was cheaper than my renewal as an existing one. Shop around every year and/or every time you change something (new driver, address, etc)

I like Adrian Flux and have used them for years but I have found that most years they try and raise the price only to drop it as soon as I call and say I've had a better offer.

2 years ago I had a letter off Adrian flux saying they can no longer insure my 56 plate navara???so changed supplier,

Do you lot have any idea why?

Yes I've had the same experience from Adrian Flux, wanted increase my premium from around £ 290 to £ 460 this year. I went elsewhere and got insurance for just under £ 300...including theft/accident cover on my Ifor Williams trailer!

Getting shafted by insurers for loyalty has been standard practice for many years. They simply try it on and if the customer pays they are laughing.

Twenty five years ago I discovered that my father in law was paying more than double the amount I was for similar circumstances. Norwich Union has just kept on increasing his premium year on year.

I took him to see a local insurance broker who arranged identical cover for 60% less than he had been quoted by Norwich Union. He was astonished to say the least.

Like a few others on here, I simply will not wear it. I will swap and change insurers (vehicle and home) and utilities, as it is so easy and saves hundreds of pounds.

Its amazing what they can do once your hit the 'I'm leaving' button. Another thing I have noticed in recent years is the insurance industry feed the media with news of how much vehicle insurance has or is going up. The media, including the good old BBC duly report this. Don't believe a word, it is the insurance industry trying to soften us up for their next unwarranted price hike.

Got to shop around. I went from 5 year old VW estate to 1 year old range rover and fully comp premium went DOWN by £200.

Clearly I was being royally shafted for the VW.

If you have more than one vehicle to insure then insuring them all with the same company brings the prices down dramatically - even although each vehicle is actually a separate policy
I Just saved over £400 on 3 vehicles which were previously with Swiftcover and AXA (same outfit) by going to Directline on a multi vehicle policy
The Swiftcover renewal notification said that since I had been with them for a few years I might be able to find cover from an alternative insurer - that's a straight admission that existing loyal customers are paying inflated premiums so that they can attract new business at more competitive prices.
It's all about market share and depends on the knowledge that many people will stick with the same company rather than shopping around for a better deal.

For me and a 2017 L200 with ten grand worth of extras on it was $700 AUD..thats 429 GBP`s WTF!

That`s on a 30 Grand in GBP`s / a $50 grand AUD vehicle.

I feel dudded lol.

My Hilux last week was much cheaper as the Gov magnanimously allows one cheaper rego on ONE vehicle only.

I have to add that I complained to my previous insurer of four years that they rewarded my loyalty every year with a premium increase and nary one claim ffs!
They got the lemonade and sars!
I went with APIA an Oz pensioner mob that offers the below.
  • We'll replace your car with a new one if it's stolen, not recovered and is less than 10 years old ($40,000 limit applies)
I figure that`s a pretty good item.

Ha John, being a bit older here in Oz has a couple of actual benefits and APIA insurance is one of them. The other is the Seniors Card, don't need a fishing licence!!
Grant.
