Plastic grid panels to keep carcass up off the bottom of the tray.

As a heads up, I found these panels on Amazon recently and have found they work well in the bottom of a plasterers bath.

I use three of these panels in the bath to keep the carcass out of any blood...they clip together...and usefully, when unclipped, they will fit in the dishwasher.

The plasterer's bath I use them in is this one from Toolstation. It's great...extremely tough.

Plasterers Polyethylene Mixing Bath 165L - Toolstation

Polyethylene is the material which will stand up to flexing and cold weather without shattering...my Homebase plasterer's bath lasted only until I actually put a carcass into it...then the lip broke off and it split almost to the base...absolutely useless.

There's different grades of PE, usually higher the density more robust the product (low - medium - high density). I'd only buy a bath marked as HDPE (which usually means I don't buy any...)

Well this medium density one has certainly stood up to being heaved around in and out of the Discovery single handed with a carcass in it with all the eccentric loads that brings. True the largest I have had is fallow does, but two roe with no problem.

What are the grids like for cleaning??

Although they will fit in the dishwasher, I haven't yet. So far I have just soaked them for a few hours altogether in the plasterers bath with septic tank friendly Bio-D "Home and Garden Sanitiser" woosh them a round a bit and then rinse them off with the hose or pressure washer.

I play the hose on and/or use a stiff brush on any congealed bits / stuck hair etc. as I am filling the bath, I should add.

They have a smooth and shiny surface, and although they have lots of surfaces they have filleted/radiused corner joints with no crevices so they clean up well when immersed with a bit of agitation.

p.s. Thinking about it, I would suggest dipping a corner into boiling water to see if they were thermo plastic...and would be inclined to use the 45˚C rather than the 70˚C wash cycle if using the dishwasher...

p.p.s. Just looked at the Amazon description again and it says "TEMPERATURE STABILITY - -50C TO +90C" so should be fine in the dishwasher...

Forgot to say we have to be prepared for -20C... at -30C I prefer to stay home...

I've moved from baths to these, I suspect they're made in one place since all say "Winter Sled" on the side regardless of the name they're sold under:

I drill some holes around the edge and fit 10mm rope. Then I can tie the beast in while dragging, and also spread the load. A sled makes dragging very much easier also when there's no snow.

I use a kids snow sled in bright orange that I got free at the local recycling tip.
I found these in Germany where I live and have ordered 5 of them (at 3.50 euros each it will not break the bank), as I have been looking for years for such an item so many thanks for the heads up.

Similar things were used originally for my brother-in-laws service garage carpark, which is where I got the idea when I was looking for grids...the advantage of the ones I found on Amazon was that they clipped together and they were small enough to go into the dishwasher when unclipped....although the dishwasher aspect has not proved necessary yet.

Sadly his carpark design did not work out and the grids were replaced with a conventional tarmac surface...I only thought about the grids for the deer tray a few years later after he had got rid of them all :(

Been using the bath and gravel mat for 8 years, still using the same one. Once I get back I fill with water and dairy cleaner then a second soak with Jaye's fluid.. it also fits on my carp porter perfect

Popped on the SD to research what to buy. Found this article. Ordered some. Job done in under 3 mins. Modern technology is wonderful sometimes!!

Thats good to hear. Glad it helped. I just paused to look at SD while my tray and grids are soaking with a bucket of water and three Milton tablets, having wooshed them around with plain water.
