The Steyr Prohunter is 'THE' best hunting rifle ever made.

Ronan
You write with great passion and I love to see someone genuinely delighted with their equipment however,I am not sure how qualified you are to give such a review,I mean you have only 167 posts to your name since 2012 so, pardon me but I am not sure you really know what you are talking about??
Martin

Having a high post count is also no indicator of 'quality'

well I wouldn't swap my CZ 550 30-06 for any other rifle on the market.

...and I wouldn't swap my Grandpa's sporterized CZ VK24 in .243, or the CZ ZKK 601 .243 he gave me for my 16th birthday. Both rifles are a million times more valuable to me than anything mentioned in this daft thread!

I love these threads , fortunately for me , I'm a first class gun slut , I like them all ....... especially that ZKK 601 of yours lol .

the round dives initially when it leaves the muzzle to about 14-15cm under at 100-150m. Rises to about 15cm above the target at 200m and then bang on target at 300m approximately.

The bullet dips then rises again during flight? It must be an amazing rifle.

This isn’t delayed from 1st of April, is it?
Ken.

Just thinking the same thing Ken

6). If you are thinking of buying this rifle and go to zero please remember the following.......the round dives initially when it leaves the muzzle

A bullet that takes a dive? Surely not. Sounds like a fixed match!

Sorry, but I couldn't make a lot of sense of the OP nor what the point of the post was. Was it to inform, persuade or to recommend?

I tried a Steyr at Ivythorn Sporting. It was advertised has having hardly shot any rounds even though used. It wouldn't put a group into a melon from 100 yards it was that bad (obviously something wrong with it) and put me off looking at another.

I'll stick to my T3 rifles and CZs as they are obviously the bestest rifles in the world, ever. Thanks for the OP though, it cheered up an otherwise dull morning for me

So lets get this straight: should I sling my Sako 75 and Tikka m595 into the scrap bin and buy a plastic-fantastic Pro-shunter or should I muddle along with what I've got for now?

Also my bullets trend to follow a steady arc on leaving the muzzle without deviating from the trajectory curve. Is there something wrong with my rounds?

A bullet that will follow the contours of the ground would be very useful on occasions. If the OP has achieved this could he post the load please.

On the next thought provoking thread, are Blasers the most over rated rifle. Oh wait that's been done already. Maybe, I can change that to is Steyr Pro Hunter the most over-rated rifle lol!

If your happy with it Ronan that’s all that matters. There not for me though

I quite agree. I looked at one and just couldn't find anything I liked about it. I'm sure they are fine but I bought a Husqvarna 1900 for less than half the price and feel the same about it as the OP does about his Prohunter. Fortunately I kept quiet about it and didn't distort the supply/demand fundamentals of the market for these ancient wood and blued rifles and now have 2 more 1900s all at a great price!

...you just have

Must say, i bought one as part of a package on SD. S&B scope, moderator and stainless steel Prohunter with superb set trigger in 308caliber. Specifically to shoot pigs, but found i could use any deer legal cal. Vendor said it would shoot 1/2 moa. Checking the zero i got 5/8” for 3 shots @100 yards with Federal 150 grain ammo. As I didn’t need it to go after pigs i moved it on.
Only thing I didn’t like ws the safety bush in the chamber area.
Ken.
Ps. Don’t think i want another.
pps. This one had a carbon fibre stock by SSS.
