Ladies Night…..

Thankfully I have some hay fields that have be cut in the last couple of weeks which gives me some field time with the rifle, two of these are new permissions with the chap who arranged it is keen to come out and watch. He has a vested interest as the Muntjac will raid his well kept garden which is close to these fields.

He brings a shooting seat and tucks into an Oak tree the other side of the gate way, quite funny to see him scan the hedge line with his swro bins and look at me shaking his head to say he has seen nothing! Earlier on a young doe bolted out of the hedge ran through the gate way span around looked at me, grunted then ran off….
Guess she had come up the hedge as I was using my cherry wood caller.

I spotted a second doe come out the hedge and work her way across to a wet area which my friend told me is an old spring, she nibbled on the green stuff for a few mins then turned back to the hedge line! So I used a bit of taller scrub to make a 100 yards at a good step then I pulled up guessing she would go side ways at some point.
Third doe comes out of the hedge and runs at her! Doe with a youngster I guessed, out bundled a pint sized deer chasing after Mum.

The older doe chased the other one a couple of times while all this time I am on the sticks watching, finely the right deer was in the scope….

My friend came over with a big grin saying I really enjoyed that and I will enjoy telling that tale when I am on shoot day later in the year…

Nice clean doe with a very small foetus on the clean out.

Nice one Tim.. glad they left the hedges for cover and a hay field would be a treat.
The first fields we cut are rape or barley. With the speed of modern machinery, the stubble can be turned over the same day and drilled shortly thereafter. john.

Nice evening, good write up!
