It wasnt enough !

Its worth reading the really turncoat comments (article above) made by Swift, a supposed shooter, who owed his livelihood for almost 25 years to - well i suspect we all know his history.

I wonder who wrote this ?

I have known John for upwards of 25 years and have worked for him at BASC for 22. He is always calm, statesmanlike, generous and even-handed. His knowledge of the UK's shooting scene is unparalleled and that expertise extends into international affairs. On his watch BASC has thrived and has grown into an organization that has unrivaled credibility with Parliamentarians, government agencies, officials, the police service and all whose work brings them into contact with live quarry shooting. When he retires in 2103, he will be a hard act to follow.

I think just about every line in that "article" (such as it is) made me roll my eyes.

a) These concerns are raised by the RSPB? The same RSPB that came under criticism by THE SAME NEWSPAPER for culling birds on its reserves?
b) The specifics around the use of lead were raised by the Lead Action Group? You mean the single issue, anti shooting, anti fieldsports group that have tried this nonsense on several other occasions and found to have been massaging their stats?
c) Lead shot is not used in wildfowling because thats illegal. Steel shot has to be used over water courses.
d) Shooting related industries are not going to save £16m a year by switching to steel shot. It will cost a fortune and achieve nothing, as has been proven by the shooting community on many occasions.
e) How much freaking lead do they think ends up in the carcass when a deer is shot? All I know is I've shot a fair few deer and am yet to find any...

I could eat a tin of Alphabetti Spaghetti and sh*t a better article than half the nonsense that gets put out in the Guardian.
 
Anyone who reads the guardian ought to be shot with non lead ammo so they can feel the real effects of it. Muppets!!!

I was under the impression that this was put to bed along time ago and the Lead action group were no longer in exsistence .

Shush dont bring your logic to this discussion as it seems currently devoid from the bunny hugger brigade. Hypocrisy is just staggering isn't it.
 
I havent seen any studies which suggest pond reared ducks suffer from lead poisoning and yet they have been shot over ponds with lead, previously, for many a year. Mr Swift however never has seemed to suffer from a conscience about what he does/says. A very arrogant man by all accounts - both verbal and written.
 
100k dying from lead shot ingestion? seems a splash in the pond in comparison to the 55million destruction inflicted by our fluffy moggy's! it was on the box tonight about keeping them in during night after one was filmed raiding a nest box and eating all the chicks. I think the rspb should be banning cats instead attacking the shooting fraternity.

I suspect that they can't produce evidence of any single human being in this country that has had "lead poisoning" from lead shot on their death certificate as a cause of death. What's more, I also suspect that the number of wild animals, be they birds or not, that die from lead poisoning is an infinitesimally small percentage. Mostly because they really don't live long enough in the wild for that to happen.

It is a good thing that we don't shoot lead shot over water courses, but to extend that to all shooting is really silly. To legislate to ban lead shot is fantastically out of proportion and would be akin to legislating that we don't cross roads on foot except at regular crossing points (Zebra/Pelican crossings). In fact, the crossing legislation, although ridiculous, would make more sense.
