Wanted: Syndicate or permission more or less anywhere but Scotland!

It struck me today that since I took up stalking this has been my worst year. One excellent and very memorable Scottish stag, and nothing else!
I know I'm in a big crowd of people looking for an affordable syndicate "South of the border" but of course if you don't ask then you never know! I'm Midlands based and would travel more or less anywhere. Unfortunately I just can't manage the distance/time needed to make a Scottish lease worthwhile.
Anyone who has anything to offer please PM.

As above £1000 a year for enjoying your hobby equates to £19.20 a week bargain really cheaper than a round of golf or a day at a football match !

Still plenty of stalking to be had cheap / free just picked up a 3000 acre patch for free close to home , just get out and get door knocking

Davis Tulloch often has places available - all Moray or Inverness. No personal experience but reports of his syndicates are good

I cant even seem to find a syndicate or pay for the the stalk around the Midlands other than mike at calton moor hence hes so busy

Seriously, in my view, stalking is pest control up here, and when I have to pay for it, I'm quitting. I'll quite happily shoot rabbits and pigeons instead.

Best of luck SS with the searching , I wish we could find 3k of stalking or anything for nowt down here

Just to add:

I have chainsaw qualifications and experience which could be useful for any maintenance, etc. First aid cert, open ticket, DSC1 and am a BDS and BASC member. My preference is for proper management rather than shooting anything that moves or looking for the biggest antlers.

I often get guys on the phone with this very problem ,

I wish I could offer stalking further south but at the moment it genuinely is impossible for even us to obtain at times, but, we are stretched from Aberdeenshire to the very west coast and north to the north coast so getting down south to try and offer you guys a bargain is almost impossible.

It is real hard sometimes for guys specially when some local police forces in England and Wales are requiring you to have deer permission ground before they allow you to keep or obtain as deer calibre rifle, I have to say I am quite lucky as even my own personal grounds have deer but that is because there is deer everywhere up here but again the ground it still hard to get , the few thousand acres of personal ground I have I work very hard to keep and you just wont get the guys anymore that will put the time or the effort in to keep the ground. Another thing I might add I get at least two or three guys a year that just pay for a syndicate and never go just so they can keep their rifles. It is mad.

The way it works am afraid, and this is mainly aimed at those that refuse to travel, is that them more people that live in your area the more likely you are to have a higher population of gun owners the less likely you are going to get ground as that ground is usually kept for long periods of time even if it is not productive at all. I spoke to a guy the other week who told me he has been on the same syndicate for 8 years and the last 4 years he has not even seen a deer let alone shot one but he is scared to give it up because it is less than a hour from his home and just in case the police refuse his tickets in the future, I know he spends £2000 a year on the place. I also been hearing about guys that are paying £1000 to £1500 for syndicate places and forced to make cull targets or they get fined for it but they are refusing to give up there places for similar reasons because it is hard to get ground close to home.

So when you got that kind of mentality in the stalking industry there is almost no chance you will get stalking unless your willing to travel , but , you never know we might be coming to a place near you hahaha

A couple of times I've been tempted by your ads. In fact, last year I was offered a place on a nice syndicate "up there" in Galloway for what I thought was a very reasonable fee, but after thinking long and hard about it I decided that it just wouldn't be possible for me to travel up regularly. Sometimes now I regret not just taking it and making time, but that's probably just wishful thinking!

Simon I 100% understand where you are coming from , you have to make your syndicate place 10 days a year to make it worth while ,

I always compare prices with estate stalking ,

a £5000 syndicate equates to (without the hidden costs ) around 5 days hill stalking on an estate for 10+ pointer stag , 7 days hind stalking and around 30 days roe stalking if you were to pay for individual stalks , the main benifit to the syndicate place is the NO hidden fees and the ability to keep and do with your deer as you see fit , don't get me wrong day stalks are good but not for a long term sport and to get the best experience from estate stalking you need to experience the hospitality also which then you can be around £10k for the week double the price of our highest price forests in fact if you want to pay £10k I will give you a whole wood to yourself for that for a year.

I would disagree with you. If you go up there twice a year then it is £500 per day plus costs plus time, four times £250 etc. And that is his point. He can't get up there often enough to justify the expense. I have been offered places on Scottish syndicates but I haven't the time, never mind the money to cover these distances.
