medical issue and acpo perspective from Sept 2017 FELWEG meeting N.B. Durham CC in Chair !

These minutes prompt a number of points.

1. The question of medical fitness to possess firearms is still a hot topic. (Did we think otherwise?) Which is good. How it is being approached isn't perhaps as good. But GPs involvement isn't going away.
2. The participation of GPs is sporadic and differs depending on the doctor. I fear some doctors won't participate and unsuitable people's conditions could be missed. But there's also the possibility of an over-enthusiastic
GP reporting conditions that are unwarranted and the licencing department acting on that. Some sort of general guidance to GPs should perhaps be considered. Although as a rule, I suspect that won't go down well with doctors (who always know best).
3. It appears that forces whose licencing teams are not performing well acknowledge it. (In general I think there's an improvement over the last year or two). But specifics on improving are missing.
4. Isn't some of this restricted? Why then is it in the public domain on that website?
5. There isn't (in this group anyway) much in the way of thoughts or discussions on standardisation between forces in granting certificates.

Sadly I cant find any more recent minutes - anyone else?

Seriously?

You don’t have to look very far as the links and extracts have been posted before on the forum.

BTW. ACPO was replaced by the NPCC on 1st April 2015 and no, it wasn’t an April Fools joke! ;)

Interestingly it was Teresa May who insisted ACPO was dissolved - only for the new NPCC to emerge the day after.

Thanks for the link to the 'sanitised' later minutes.
