Reloading why did i bother ?

Just been up my mates range at his farm.He had to do a mock fc shooting test for some ground he was after .so prone kneeling and standing.Then after he was satisfied handed over to me.so let off three rounds at 100 not impressed.pulled the first put two in an inch.second group was all in bout inch half.mmmm.so now with a warm barrel three more all touching clovetleaf.This is factory federal 150g 3006.Do barrell harmonics perform better warmed up ?.
It was after being thoroughly cleaned but I do not oil my barrel.
Ideas please.

Did you clean it before you fired? Possibly just needed some fouling in the barrel

Probably just needed some fouling rounds then to tighten it up if you cleaned the bore.

My idea is that, allowing the one you called as pulled, your rifle and you are capable of making a 1.5" eight-round group at 100yds.

It's difficult to make much else of the information, as there are many variables in both rifle and rifleman.

Apart from that, barrels that need fouling shots after having been thoroughly cleaned are usually heavily pitted.

Your cold bore shot can be different. I load for my rifles and wouldn’t change it I get higher performance than any factory bullet. The most likely problem here is because you cleaned the barrel! One of my rifles is fine the other takes about 5 fowling shots before she settles down to a grouping again. That’s a krieger barrel too

Sorry meant to add I've been reloading this calibre cos I couldn't find any factory ammo at the time that would group under 2 inch.
Then I've just recently found federal that will cloverleaf at 100 .apart from the first 6 shots

May I enquire as to the rifle you were using, and its approximate age; what sort of interval between shot groups did you have, or were all shots fired pretty much say within 5-10 minutes, thanks.

How windy?

What group size were you expecting?

How does it normally shoot with this or any other specific ammunition if this is unusual for you and/or the rifle?

Have you ever read the Fuller diagnosis of groups? The best starting point for an overview of the variations to be expected with a non faulty rifle and ammunition...

Just seen your latest post...you do like to keep us guessing don't you!

So the rifle has always shot a larger group when cold...does it repeat the same pattern?

Does the first cold shot always go to the same point?

It's a t3 light stainless 2 years old

That is the least important part of @Freeforesters question...how rapid were your shots?

Though on the rifle is the barrel fully floated? Can you slide the proverbial fiver down between fore-end and barrel when the rifle is supported on the fore-end...maybe with a light pressure down on the scope to replicate your hold...

That's a nuisance, I posted the link from the info panel of the .pdf I have...which always worked in the past...I have just been back to the homepage of the www.rifleman.org.uk site and the link doesn't work from their listing either...hmm I will try posting the .pdf but I think it is a bit big...
