Malarial drugs...it's why I use only Malarone!

This....it's why I use only Malarone! If this young woman died as a result of either herself, or a friendly pharmacist, trying to save a few Pounds on medication costs it is terrible.

Asda sell a generic version of Malarone at half the price of the named brand.

It's a well known fact that Lariem will destroy your life permanently, ask any Mil personell who used this drug on deployment.

Never use this drug
 
My brother and his wife thought they were going crazy and had to stop taking it before there was a murder.

I've only used generic malerone without problems.

Thank you. It was many years ago.

I think Lariam is a very dangerous drug. However, it is cheap. That's why people risk it.

Malarone every time for me.
 
I've certainly had some interesting dreams on Lariam

Carl do you happen to know how many days before and after being in country you need to take the daily dose with Malarone?

Maybe I'm less than a full deck but when I heard the suggestion this heart-breaking loss might be related to the drug in question I said a prayer that this is indeed the findings of those investigating. The alternative would surely be even more painful, if such a thing is possible, for the family to reconcile?

As I suggest, my thinking is quite possibly both crass and unpalatable but there you have it.

totally agree, only use Malarone. seen too many people have episodes with Lariam, fortunately not as tragic as the subject here or CarlW friend. Cant for the life of me see why its still offered
 
I used the same generic Malarone last time 20 February to 27 March this year that I was in Nigeria. From the pharmacy in my village here in the UK.

Same stuff as Asda sell as their generic I think. So that was five weeks in Benin City plus one week in France on the stuff. No ill effects. The dosage is one a day and I think a one a day for a couple of days before you go and a full seven days after you come back.

The wife being Nigerian never bothers..like many believing that as she's already had it she knows when she's got it again and so gets an injection to treat it rather than take a medicine to prevent it. That isn't something I'd recommend.

AFAIK, Malarone is supposed to be taken for a maximum of 28 days other wise there is a risk of kidney problems.
So, given the need for it to be taken for a week after leaving the malarial area, it means trips into such areas are really limited to 3 weeks.

Yes. Most people push it a bit longer. I know I do.
 
What happened to the good ole Palladrin Tablets that we had to take in the far east.
Has this new medication replaced it and I wonder why. We all took Paladrin daily for anything up to three years and as far as I know nobody went doo lally.
I found as guy out cold in the jungle of Belize once and when he came round he said he had just taken his anti malaria tablet, he didn't say which one other than it was bought from Boots and was a big yellow one that always made him dozy for the first couple of days after he'd taken it and then it is Ok for the rest of the week, then he takes another.
That certainly wasn't Palladrin.
 
I'd guess EMcC that it became in some areas of the world ineffective. That the parasite there developed a resistance to it. The same as, nowadays, for many years long gone, quinine is no longer effective.
