how to keep rifle away from rusting ?

how everyone keeps there guns away from rust ?

bought rifle then placed it in to the gun safe two weeks later noticed small rust on bolt and rifle. quickly cleaned barrel and bolt and then sprayed some browning legia oil. it was ok on the rifle as checked again after 2 weeks but bolt was rusty again. so cleaned again and sprayed with browning legia again but this time i covered it in oil haha.but want to reduce humidity in my gun cabinet so bought Silica Gel beads and placed them in socks added one to the ammo safe then hanged one in the middle of safe and one on the floor hopefully it will work.

A low wattage lamp like a fridge light may help to keep the cabinet atmosphere dry...

Don't forget to keep changing the Silica Gel regularly...dry it out on a baking tray on a night store heater or in a bottom oven or similar.

I just keep on chucking silica gel packs in the cabinets. Lots of stuff you buy these days has little packs in the packaging - electrical goods, shoes, etc etc. They all get collected up and chucked in. I have 3 cabinets, 2 of which are in a room that can get very damp, but so far (over 20 years at this property) no rust.
I also wipe my guns over with an oily rag from time to time.

ive some experience on this subject. trace heating with a thermostat is what i settled with, but if you cant guarantee that you will have 24/7 power, then it will tend to invoke moisture.

I fully agree with Uncle F, the Brunox in the green tin is what i wipe all my guns with for storage and the orange tin is used in place of what WD40 used to be.

I use all the silica sachets that come with everything you buy these days, just chuck them in and for good measure I throw in Rust inhibitor sachets I use these ones:

But wiping guns down with oily rag is probably most important. Try not touching the bolt or rifle with your hands afterwards. I use the oily rag to put the rifle or bolt in the cabinet.

Plus one for those - I have one in each of my cabinets after suffering a leaking silicon bag which rusted all my rifles and shotguns. Took ages to clean up and polish (2000 grade wire wool) before they were could be reblacked and one barrel had to be replaced (severe rust pitting)

I know that as a greenhouse/conservatory/linencupboard/underbed heater....might be worth comparing prices to see which is the least niche market priced!

In addition to my comments above, I also always allow my guns to come up to room temperature before putting them away. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it can't do any harm.

Same here. The condensation can visibly form immediately on the cold metal...so I take them out of the slip and leave an hour or so to acclimatise before given a wipe over the outside with a silicon cloth and pull through the barrel with first a dry, and then a CLP laden bore snake.

The slight advantage of a fridge bulb is you get light in the cabinet as well...
