Available: Dean boar

Just had a very enjoyable couple of nights here, can’t recommend it highly enough, Barry knows his stuff and is very helpful for those not as experienced, thanks for a great couple of nights

No guarantees in highseats waiting for deer, boar, or anything else, there have been times in my life where if a car never hit anything crossing the road I never are that day.. face it,, sh1t happens.
you pays yer money and you takes yer choice.
there are plenty of boar in the forest of dean, its a large area, I have been reading up on boar of late, they aren't dumb by a long way. read Derek Harmans book its very informative and entertaining.

It would be good to hear about what you saw, and what you shot ?
Apologies for the lack of info mate, my mate got a boar on the first night, around 150lb, 2 year old male, the second night was thick fog so not ideal shooting, we had a sow and 4 little ones run past our box flat out so something must have spooked them, they stopped briefly at the edge of the field but couldn’t get a safe shot, I’m trying to work out how to upload photos but I’m a bit of a tech Neanderthal

Very true mate, wasn’t criticising the place for lack of animals, like you said **** happens, wasn’t disappointed in any way, really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be booking up again, there was plenty of sign about so they are there but it’s the luck of the draw if they show, we were lucky and managed to get one the first night.

I can vouch for how many pigs are on the land this covers, I’ve had a few nights on it, first ever night was a blank, not because they wasn’t in sight, I just couldn’t get the shot, but I had 3 the second night, then 5 the next visit, so plenty about, it’s just pot luck like all shooting.

It's good to hear some people are having success.

What's the score regarding what can and can't be shot? I appreciate they are causing a lot of damage just wondered what the size limit (as in small) is?

I believe anything still dependant is left for humane reasons, anything Independant to be shot, your best bet is to ask the man himself though, his shoot, his rules
Barry sent me some photos, I am down in May and August :thumb:

If it was a sow with young in tow probably just as well you didn’t get a shot off!

Due to the number of calls I am getting from past clients, I am going to offer boar shooting again starting in August.

This will be limited to only several outings per month during the full moon.

Pm for more information.

Update to this post

I am now operating several days a week and throughout the year but avoiding sows which have dependent followers which can be clearly identified using thermal.

Shooting is from enclosed towers with comfortable chairs overlooking bait sites which are located 50 mtrs away and where the pigs come to feed throughout the night.

Its £150 per night but there are no other fees for shots or trophies and no limits on the numbers you shoot as my shoots are for pest control/damage limitation.

Deer which are in season and during legal light conditions may also be taken included in the price and these are, Roe, Fallow and Munty with Fallow being the most prevalent.

Carcass for both deer and boar is £1 lb should you wish to take it home and a trichinella testing kit will be included for you to send off any samples for testing should you wish to do so.

I have a 4 berth caravan on site which has gas and electricity which you can also use for free should you wish to get some rest before your journey home as some people like to sit out all night.

Some form of n/v equipment is required with thermal being the best but I have an estate rifle with an Atn thermal scope fitted if you have nothing suitable.

Lamping is not suitable as the boar normally take to the woods but a scope mounted light with a green pill seems to be effective.
