Blaser R93

Wouldn't have it as a present, .222 sure, .243 sure (got one of each, plus another 2); speed comes at a price, the price being 1) increased wear on barrel - shorter barrel life, and 2) unless you intend shooting all in the head, and thereby opening up yourself to a variety of troubles, then the hydraulic damage caused by such a fast bullet will ensure you get your deserved share of venison jelly. You can of course elect to spend more on reloading gear and reduce the velocity of the round to that comparable to, say, .222 or .243 velocities.... :-|

Terrific rifle, personally I rate them higher than the R8, but that's for another day.

That's one opinion, others will doubtless ensue...

I have 222 and 243 in r93. 222 is a sweet round. Lovely and accurate. The 243 struggles with stabilising 100grains. But shoots 87vmax well.

The r93 is slimmer and lighter than the r8. Feels much nicer in the hands in my opinion. When I put my 300wm barrel in though you certainly notice the lack of weight! I love the rifle. Yeah nice you’ve got it you won’t regret it.

Its an older platform. Proven system for losing an eye.

The R8 is yet to be proven for losing an eye.

I have R93 in 22LR, 223, 243, 30-06, 9.3x62, 416 Rem.

All shoot sub MoA with hand loads and quality factory loads and I've still got two eyes.

Can't see why the 22/250 wouldn't perform well.

R93, 22-250 , 20 inch barrel , if I do my bit right , Nothing gets away !! Bullet on top of bullet! I Absolutely love it 👍 also have and use . 222, 6.5x55 & 7x57 Barrels for it too👍

Wasn’t the R93 episode nailed down to a Darwin Award candidate using pistol or another badly unsuitable powder in his home loads?

I really like my R93, much nicer in the hand than the R8 which I find bulky and heavy. I have never owned a 22 250 ,shot a few and really liked them an emphatic killer. 30 yrs+ ago when calibre size was severely curtailed in Ireland . I believe the 22-250 was the biggest you could have and no doubt there were plenty of sika stags knocked over with it, (which are a good test for any calibre). I suppose it could be said a 243win is more versatile with the size range of bullets available.

I was first tempted into the dark side by my mate in Scotland using a .22-250 R93 standard barrel to great effect on foxes, no faffing about and it didn’t give a monkeys on whether it was off the wing mirror, rock, bag, pod, forearm, whatever. So apart from the venerable .22rf, I graduated my various b/a rifles into R93 barrels including a .22-250.

Several years later I was tempted by the .20’s and as Blaser only offered the R204 for the R8 I’ve now got a Sako A1 in .20Prac and the 250 went to make room for that. Mind you, I didn’t ask if Blaser could do one for me....would’ve possibly worked out cheaper.

The .243 barrel is the ‘does exactly what it says on the tin‘ for my main foxing rifle though. My mate in Scotland was running his .22-250 standard barrel on an LRS2 chassis for foxing last year too, his every day carry was a 300WM Match barrel in an off-road Pro stock.

cheers
