Should I get an Accuracy international

I’ve come up with a notion that I need an accuracy international AXMC, AX or AT. No particular reason except that I have an itch to scratch, and could condense a few rifles into one.
I have a separate lighter stalking rifle.
what are people’s thoughts on them? Anyone have any negative experience? Am I being an idiot, and is there something else people would recommend?

No1 - your not being an idiot! If you want one go get one! Were here for a good time not a long time!

I've a mate that works for them and he stalks with one (im my ignorance I don't know which one) and it stands up to its name its a precision tool.

Would I personally like one - yes! Would I like to carry one up the hill - no! But like you say you've got that covered with the lighter rifle...

Get down the range with it or go do that precision rifle stuff, shooting more will only make you a better shot!
 
I bought an AI AX and for no valid reason that even I would fall for.

Initially had a slot for .338 but discovered at the last minute that I could not use that calibre at Bisley so changed it down.
It is in .308 and I thought when I bought it I could perhaps take it out on the hill.
It is a fantastic bit of kit and I now have it dialled in for 100 to 1000 yards.

Take it out on the hill? I can barely take it out of the boot of the car.

Very solid bit of kit and has introduced me to long-range shooting and precision reloading.
Mine came with a S&B PMII scope and in anticaption of the thing arriving I studied MOA until I knew it backwards. Damn thing turned out to be in MILRAD.

Hey ho - back to the books for learning about that new aspect of the sport.

They are heavy, and the fore-end is almost unusable for unsupported shooting or off sticks. Reliability is 100% if my old AW is anything to go by, and accuracy is exceptional.

If you want one, then go for it!
 
I was like you and I wanted something for long range on the gongs so settled for. 260 bought through sporting Services, I settled for the AT non folder, bought a phoenix bipod and MAE mod, it is therfore very heavy and I like solid rifles but this is definitely a prone rifle. Apparently all the rifles use the same action and it's only the stocks that are different, I did like the look of the ax models.
Initially I could not get it too shoot it was 1 moa gun it was consistent with what I put through it, it left me dissapointed, eventually put lapua scenars through it and it became a half moa gun, I now enjoy shooting it and can consistently hit 30" gong at 900 mtrs was hoping to go for the 1000 this year but on hold at the moment.
It's definitely a fun gun for me because I am using scenars it will be just that, not live quarry.
Wish I had bought a folder now.
 
I always fancied one but thought the outlay was too much to justify as I had a spare Stiller Predator action kicking about..........so put that in an AI AX stock from Sporting Servicses and had a Bartlein barrel fitted in 22BR. My word what a shooter !
Came with a recommended load from the gunsmith and have never changed from that.....will shoot .25moa all day long if I do my bit and part of that is down the heavy/solid stock.
As others have said.....is it a stalking rifle...only if you're Desperate Dan (showing my age !) but is it a great foxing off the truck gun ?...Dynamite.
If you want/fancy one, then get one. You won't be disappointed.

Was it dolphin rifles who put it together?
 
I have a sako 75 in a carbon McMillan stock which is nice and light for stalking. My other 6.5x47 sako has a very heavy barrel, McMillan heavy stock and is hefty so don’t think weight would be too much of an issue. Those of you who have put a custom barrel on your AI have anything go to input on accuracy? Ask as my 6.5x47 is a hole in hole gun and would be hoping to get close, will get it with a 308 barrel and have a another barrel chambered in a 6.5 cartridge.

Just to muddy the waters....

How about a Desert Tech? Multi calibre if desired, accuracy exceptional (from what I've read) very different from most other rifles.

Just depends if you like a bull pup design??

Pricey for sure but if your talking A.I then Desert Tech is in same bank managers ballpark :tiphat:

I was the same as you, I fancied another rifle at the time so bought one. I have a 6.5x55 and a 22/250 so seen this in 6.5x47, Valkyrie in Ai ax stock 26" Bartlien 8 twist barrel and a jewel trigger, works well:cool:

Stalked with my AT for the last three years and enjoyed every trip. 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrels, no loss of zero at 100 yards when swapping barrels. Puts a smile on my face every time, no complaints from the significant number of deer shot. Extremely accurate and worth every penny.
Heavy is good heavy is reliable.... 😊
