Interesting detail between the lioness's paws in the engraving on the magazine bottom plate!

My friend Hennie went with his ranger friend on a border drive in the Kruger, they came across a trail of blood stained clothes, at the end of them was a man up a tree asking to be arrested as all his friends had been eaten...

Hope you are well.?

Yummy!

Very well thanks Tim - and my feathered mate. ;)

I have spent an awful lot of time on safari in Tsavo over the years, it is a truly magical place.

I rather suspect that the lioness in the engraving is, in fact, a lion. Tsavo lions are without mane. My assumption is based on the fact that the most famous Lions from the area are the two man-eaters that were hunted, shot and killed by Col. J. H. Patterson during the building of the Kenya-Uganda railway, which would tie in neatly with the human limb being portrayed?

It is a fascinating story, recounted excellently in the book by Patterson entitled "The Man Eaters of Tsavo" or, if you prefer it visually, "The Ghost and the Darkness" starring Val Kilmer as Patterson. The film I can take or leave, but the book is definitely worth a read...

I'm probably going to be burned at the stake for heresy, but that's not great engraving. If I'd paid a kings ransom for that I'd be seriously upset. Once the novelty of the arm is gone the quality of the lions is really poor. They look more like a Disney storyboard than real life art.....which given it's from the Rigby stable is really surprising.

I'm on the pyre awaiting the torch.

Oh my...

I really do need to check my birth certificate properly. Given that my tastes far outweigh my ability to cater for them there must surely be a mistake somewhere?

Whatever you do, don’t scroll back through the several years worth of short articles (some expand into more detailed pieces) on the Westley Richards Explora website. I think even Bill Gates would have to examine his credit card balance if the buying bug took hold!

Yes, recently read it, although for my money some of the Corbett tales are better for that, ‘Edge of the Machan’ sense of being there with a big cat only a spring away.
