Skin problem around eye

Our Lab's hair has started to wear thin aound his left eye this past couple of weeks or so. We put it down to him scrambling through dense undergrowth, (brambles and the like). Then because he seemed to be scratching quite a bit we treated him with Frontline even though we hadn't seen any unwanted visitors. We haven't noticed similar wear anywhere else; other suspicious-looking marks on the pictures are either folds in the skin or paint from a door-frame ! Any suggestions ?

Thank you in advance !

How old is he? I've occasioally seen this and found nothing despite investigation and felt if it wasn't spreading it wasn't that big a concern. However, eyes are often a site for demodectic mange and one can't tell without a skin scraping. Frontline is less effective than it used to be for fleas so I'd speak to your vet about Bravecto (or similar) as it will do better on teh felas, take out the ticks and is very good on demodex!

Thank you, Buchan. He's eight. We'll look into your suggestion.

I did half wonder about demodex, we had it once (decades ago !) in a litter of Boxer puppies we bred. Grateful for your advice.
