Static Carvan, stove or no stove?

Hi, just moved into a static caravan... looking to see if anyone has put a wood burning stove in a caravan before? Would be getting it fitted by a proper Stove installer... just looking to see what people think of a stove in a caravan.

Maybe look at what an insurance company (policy documents) thinks of it if you want to insure your caravan? Might give a clue if it is considered risky.

And be aware, as I'm certain you will be, of the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning and if it is gas powered of unburned gas gathering in any floor spaces between the floor and the caravan "hull". Although that's more or a boat thing really that risk.

This is something I've considered for the future when I finish work in a few years time.
Could I ask how you've got around fixing a cabinet in there for firearms please?
Cheers Jimmy

I've seen fatal car crashes and I still drive everyday.
Fair point, except that where a car has inbuilt safety features a static caravan appears to be precisely the opposite. I've dismantled more than a few, and found things such as electrical cabelling stapled to the wooden framework between the inner and outer skin, with knots tied in it to prevent the cable pulling through the staples! Around each knot the polystyrene insulation was blackened and melted!
The most amazing thing about setting fire to a static was watching the window glass melt. The heat was incredible. It's just a miracle that the dodgy electrics didn't torch it before I did!
I wouldn't spend a single night in one now.

I put 1 in mine, well 2 actually.
1sr 1 was 5kw but possibly a bad stove as hardly heat the caravan.
Surprising how big a burner u need.

I ripped the 2nd toilet out so lig burner is halfway down caravan.
I put 2 layers of fire proof plasterboard and tiles on top of that and the base.

It's my only source off heating and dries out all my gear after a wet day in the woods, amazing how much water cutting trousers can soak up

I think it's a good idea, and makes them very comfy. Make sure that the stove is installed well with decent insulated flue, good hearth etc. Make sure you have a couple of good smoke alarms too.

Keep the flue swept, which will be really easy for such a small one - A chimney fire burnt my brother in law's caravan a few years ago but luckily they got out unscathed.

Thanks for all your replies.. good to hear other peoples opinions... the wood burner will be fitted by a stove fiter so would be fitted to the standards needed... just think it will help alot in the winter and like a few off you said... help dry out wet stalking gear as nothing worse than not being able to dry all that out... thanks everyone 😀

Most people who live permanently in static vans, micro houses etc tend to find they need a solid outbuilding as well. Less of an issue with a good size static but in small vans there's nowhere to do your laundry for a start. Then there's food storage because there's no larder and no room for a big freezer, so they tend to end up with a utility building on site and there's no reason why that can't be used for gun storage as well, as long as it's suitably constructed.

Didn’t have one in mine 5 happy cheap years , mate did But it caused no end of damp problems! I Had one fitted in the replacement log cabin love it but so warm so Don’t go too Big if you do !

I’ve built a boot room on my cabin Now And am planning an office and dressing room for the girlfriend, when in the van no problem with feo and guns But did have the patch rust protect things in my cabinets A few of them
