Greens councillor disgusting behaviour

Disappointed to see Members of SD indulging in the "cancel culture" by using social media to get someone sacked (however odious they may be) just because they don't like what he says. The "cancel" culture.

Free speech sometime involves hearing things we find distasteful.

Read your own last sentence there and get over yourself.

Disagree there Ade, fight fire with fire. We are under constant attack on social media-this cretin deserves it. He should conduct himself in a professional and respectful manner in his position.

I agree in principle, but I still signed. The problem is that if he had said that about someone who was gay, BAME, trans etc he'd probably be in jail right now, he certainly wouldn't still be on the council. If we allow a two tier system where some minority groups get special treatment and some other groups are discriminated against we are only making things worse. Much worse. And since 'cancelling' has become the weapon of choice of the new woke generation and since the Anti's seem to fit into that group I feel we have no option but to play them at their own game.
I find it incredible that an elected official thought he could get away with saying something like that, but that sadly shows how far we have fallen already.

Well made points which I generally agree with, indeed I agree with all the sentiments shown in this thread. My worry is by playing the same game as the woke brigade it creates a downward spiral which will be extremely hard if not impossible to recover from and should be resisted. A levelling up not a levelling down?

I think by being offensive you weakened your argument right there.

I wasn't arguing, I was simply pointing out the blatantly obvious hypocrisy of your post.

You stated to the forum you were offended by members on here because they expressed their opinion on a contentious matter which they obviously felt strongly about, and, at the same time you feel the need to point out that free speech means we have to sometimes listen to things we find distasteful.

You seem to be easily offended, but that's your choice.

There is no hypocrisy in my post . I think you should re-read my post .

I clearly did not say I was offended by members on here. Do you make a habit out of mis-reading things or just when it suits you?

You can be as pedantic as you desire Snowflake, but how about you google the meaning of "disappointed" and educate yourself because I'm fairly sure everyone else reading will know the definition of it.

You seem like one of these lonely internet debating wannabe's to me.

I could be wrong though, it wouldn't be the first time and it certainly won't be the last time.

In the meantime though would you mind awfully taking your faux outrage, disappointment and sense of injustice and run along and cry yourself a river?

Thanks.

Contentious point, however to me (very much a layman) he is dissapointed, BUT to such a degree he needs to post about it........... This is then offended territory.

@Ade8mm is right. Regardless of the topic currently under discussion, the level of hypocrisy on this site stinks.
If you get offended by anything you're a snowflake, right? Plenty of folk on here say so, so it must be right. Yet plenty of folk on here seem to be offended by what this councillor said. All of you are therefore snowflakes, right?
Freedom of speech is a good thing, right? Plenty of folk on here say so, so it must be right. So this councillor exercises freedom of speech, but you don't like what you hear. So freedom of speech is a bad thing, unless the speaker says only what you want to hear, right?
Protestors are mindless scum, right? So standing up for what you believe in is wrong? So we shouldn't protest against increasing restrictions on our legitimate use of firearms, or join countryside marches, because that would make us "protestors" and therefore scum, right?
The greenies are a menace, yes? So caring for the environment is bad, because it has political connotations. Is that so? Yet all of us depend upon a healthy environment for our sport. Yet standing up for environmental issues makes us geenie lefties, yes? So we're all greenies lefties on this site are we, because we care?
Etc etc.
Get a grip.

That's it kid, let it all out...

I only joined SD for the camaraderie and Bon viveur.

All this vitriol, angst and name calling - well I just see this as an absolute bonus...

Can you imagine if SD members got around a beer table once a year and just "had a chat"....why some of us may even end up liking each other...and that would never do...

Come on Gentlemen, it's only Monday....I'm off fly fishing tomorrow...it's all good...

Second cast of the day.
The distal section of my Hardy rod snapped in two.

So actually no, it's not all good...serves me right for being a bloody optimist...

But at least only the second part of your day was miserable.

If you were a pessimistic cove you would have been miserable the whole day long...With just the hollow victory/satisfaction of an “I told you so” post rod snap. :)
