£3,500 for a mongrel?

I am totally gobsmacked at the prices of puppies at the moment and as has been mentioned already a large proportion of these poor dogs will end up in rehoming centres in the not so distant future, with a debatable future as said rehoming centres have such ludicrous rehoming criteria. My two were bought as pups as rehoming was not an option as I work like most of us. Springer Patterdale cross, genuine accident on a friends farm, chipped, jabs £250. Pedigree Cane Corso more health checks and fancy pedigree certificates than I've ever seen with a dog before £1500 Bought as a guard dog so comparable price to burglar alarm ,more reliable and will last longer

I dont know about burglars - I certainly wouldnt try and take the armchair back !

As a side note I wonder how many of these dogs will suffer separation anxiety issues when folk have to return to work.

Also these folk breeding these "designer" mongrelsvcan spew a litter from the same bitch every 6 months without any time for her to properly recover.

As someone looking for a dog, it really is very clear that the prices for pups appear to have gone completely mental since the start of lock down. I'm guessing there are punters happy to pay those prices. I'll however sit back and await the inevitable price crash and return to sensible prices.

I'm guessing we'll start seeing the great rehousing of lock down puppies from September onwards. It will be interesting to see whether those who have paid £2-3k plus or whatever for a nondescript dog with no pedigree will understand that any second hand value is a fraction of that (if even that).

You have to feel for the dogs though in all this.
I don't think they will as I am seeing dogs for sale at 12ish months old and the seller is looking to re-home and stating all the issues, dog aggression, very energetic, anxiety and they're still asking for over £1000 . The same people that think they could buy a new car, drive it badly, not service it and sell it for what they paid for it??

My oldest sister used to breed Cockers. They were nothing more than pampered pooches so we were always at loggerheads as I would constantly tell her she had a darned cheek entering them in the Gun Dog Class at shows when they had never ever seen or heard a shotgun!
my sister in law has Pyranean mountain dogs... that are entered into the 'pastoral' class as they herd sheep originally..... they have never seen a hill let alone a mountain and the only lambs they have seen was in their food!

They are worth what your willing to pay!

My ESS pup purchase will be next year in these crazy times!

The private re-homing ads speak volumes.

I'm usually reading ads along the lines of "Change in circumstances force me to sell Tiddles. Very playful and energetic. Loves attention and children. Forever home wanted" as really meaning "Tiddles is not the fluffy puppy we thought he would stay and he has chewed up all the furniture and skirting boards. We're pulling our hair out as he keeps shagging everyone's leg and knocks kids over like 9 pins. That all said, we want to recover our money by flogging on our problem."

I caught a programme earlier this evening " Dogs Behaving (very) Badly"
I don't know why they don't correctly name it "Owners Behaving (very) Badly"
Cringeworthy & my anger doesn't come close to the absolute stupidity & ignorance I felt of these owners. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

My best mate asked me around a year ago to keep an eye open for a cocker, it wasn't long before I found one, from a known working strain, even though he didn't want to work it I knew where it would have come from.
Then he sends us a photo of a puppy, they had bought a cockapoo, it's very 'yappy' but a pretty little dog which is now 6 months old.
But, it wasn't long before they noticed a problem, it was occasionally running/hopping on 3 legs, a duff hip and the breeder doesn't want to know.

We often watch "Dog Rescuers" with Alan Evans. I am not a big fan of the RSPCA but I have to admit that they do remarkably well with some of the "rescues" that they carry out. (No doubt it's the worst cases they use on the program just for "sensationalism") However it really does make my blood boil seeing how some people can allow their dogs to get into such sickening states and terrible condition (Sometimes with broken bones or serious skin infections that the dogs have had to live with quite long periods of time) and some of the owners even claiming that they simply can not afford the vet's bills. The answer to that is quite easy and simple - If you can't afford vet bills then you should not get any dog to start with, regardless of if is just a rescued street dog or one of these "Designer Dog" (Extremely Expensive Mongrels)!
:banghead: :banghead: Rant over!:banghead::banghead:

This is my boy and folk who know this dog know how capable a dog he his,
He cost me £30 Best money have spent.

Which just goes to show that you don't need to pay an arm and a leg for a brilliant dig!
He does look very "hansom" and quote a character - No doubt a very keen worker too. :tiphat:

I have two spaniels. One has had three trips for surgery and the other a serious cut that required sedation out of hours too. None of those bills were “cheap” but I didn’t hesitate to pay them. I would go short before mine suffered.
My late next door neighbour didn’t suffer fools. She was at the vets with their dog and a woman came in with a Shih tzu X Poodle.
Ever so proud going on about this mongrel.
So my neighbour asks “is it a Sh1t poo or a Poo Sh1t you call it then?”
The poor woman was even more put out when the Vet settled the pedigree v mongrel argument with “No it’s a mongrel makes no odds the parents are pedigree”.
