Currently assembling the reloading bits and pieces I'll need for the 204 I've ordered. I intend to try 32g and 39/40g bullets and purchased a couple of tubs of N530 as it is recommended for both bullet weights. It would seem I didn't perhaps research this powder as well as I might and have since read conflicting views on how it can be hard on barrels, causing throat erosion. Those citing this issue did tend to use the powder in relatively hot loads, in heavier calibres. In all my years reloading, I have always used loads at the lower, or middle end of those recommended, but I am nonetheless now concerned that I have bought a powder that may cause undue wear on a new rifle.
It would be useful to hear the experiences of folk who have used this powder in their 204 for some time.....good and bad.

There are a number of alternatives available. I'm more interested in members experiences with N530. At over £90 per tub, I'd obviously prefer to use it.....unless members experiences with it have been negative.

That's good to hear. I've since read various reports from folk that have similar views.

Already bought.....I'll give it a go. Heard more good things than bad. If other folk can get through 1000+ rounds without issue, using hotter loads than I intend using, then I should be OK.

It's a modern double based powder with inhibitors. So are all the Aliant Reloader powders, all Ball powders, several Reload Swiss powders, and all Norma Powders. It's not exactly a new idea. Thanks to Laurie for this info.

You have to think of it this way. A rifle barrel is a wearing part, it has a life span. What you need to decide is what is value for money from your barrel.
ie are 100 dead foxes and 250 crows worth replacing either rifle or barrel for?
I don’t think you would notice it too much if you are firing the odd shot or short string of shots. Range use might cause more damage due to the heat involved in larger groups and more of them.
Personally I wouldn’t worry too much about it and just get on with finding a load. I use various powders N100 series and some N500 ones amongst others. I worry about fire cracking etc when I can’t get acceptable accuracy.
